I was reading one of my many Porsche Books and it said something about the 914-8. It had a boxer 8 or a V-8 engine in it. Did this make it to production.

Only two were built by Porsche, in 1969, as specials. They used a 3 liter 908/03 type engine, were fuel injected, and made 300 hp at 7500 rpm. One car went to Ferdinand Piech, and the other one was given to Ferry Porsche for his 60th birthday. Ferry reportedly put 6000 road miles on his car.

I think at least one of them is in the possession of the Porsche factory museum.

Really cool cars. I saw the one in germany at the Porsche museum. I wonder what it would take to reproduce that engine.

A LOT of $money$, and pointless when you can get that level of performance, and better reliability, out of a "massaged" 3.6L.

The 908 engine is from a whole different era of racing; mechanicals with a knack for letting go at just the wrong moment ...

So when is the 928 motor going to be ready to push that little car down the road. I also have a 78 928 and a 74 2.0L teener. Personally I like them just as they are. However the thought does RACE around in my head once in awhile.

I hope to attend a 914 event in Maumee Ohio in August. It's posted over on the 914 BBS at Pelican Parts. It's about the same distance from Mississippi. If you want to see the real thing. It should be a great event.

When you think about it the total round trip distance is less than the number of miles you would travel between oil changes. The trip I'm planning is kind of a shake down. I hope I can make it. I would really like to take a tour through the south and up the western coast.Big dreams, we'll see.

Piech's car had this 300 hp engine.Ferry's car had about 240 hp (if i can remember correctly).
Have seen Ferry's example in the factory museum.
