Insurance for 914's, who's the best?
Can anyone recommend an insurance company for my 914? Geico will, but for "book value, less depreciation". In other words, diddly. Thanks!

Rob,
I would under no circumstances buy any insurance from Geico.
A few years ago there was a company making laser speed measuring devices for police
but sales were poor and they were about to go out of business. Geico saved the
manufacturer by buying a bunch of the laser devices and giving them away free to
police!!!
I have not heard good things about Geico insurance coverage except it is cheap.
I have been VERY happy with Allstate.
When I put money into my 911 the agent told me to save the receipts and I was covered.
I had a break-in on my 911. They had me drive it to a local inspection center. I walked out with a check which exceeded my expectations. They even paid for small scratches in the leather. There was no hassle, it was very good customer service. I am convinced it is worth to pay a little more for Allstate.

George

Rob,
The best thing to do is to tell the insurance agent that you want a stated value policy for X amount to cover the value of the car. They will require pictures and possibly an appraisal which you can get through PCA Joe Hartman, Valuation Committee. The stated value type policy costs more but you are covered for that amount..no questions asked.
Good luck.

Definitely shop your local brokers/ offices for collector's insurance... you'll need limited annual mileage and in some cases photographs and/ or receipts but a few hundred will get you comp AND collision..(even in NY!!!)
