Question for all you big Type IV people
I'm going to join the club with a 2.5 or 2.6 sometime the end of this year. I have it all planned out rather well, but do I need to change anything on the heads. I'm planning on using Dual Weber carbs (44s?). Im wondering if enough air/fuel will get throuh the valves and exit fast enough. Thanks.

Your first stops should be ShopTalk Forums' <a href="http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=The+Type+4rum&number=1" target="_blank">Type 4rum</a> and <a href="http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/Home_Page.htm" target="_blank">Raby's Aircooled Technology</a>.
These are two of the best places to find out what it's going to take to build a reliable 2.3+L T-IV.

Hey stick let me know When You are ready for the carbs I just put 40IDF's on my car. I now have perfectly running 44IDF's ready to bolt on. Everything you need Manifolds, linkage, New K&N's and some various jets. Cheap I promise. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Hey there. On our 2615 we figured out through engine modeling and simulation that we needed roughly 750 cfm to maximize the HP output, but then again that makes for a really touchy throttle response when running a 75mm throttle body :-)
If you can't find the flow numbers on those carbs I'm sure we have them somewhere around here.
Take care,
