I was a proud member of a mechanically great wonder car 1976 914. The car gave me 4+ years of too much fun. Sadly, it was crushed in a parking lot accident on the last day of 2002. I was hit by a God forsaken 1998 Ford Escort directly in the passenger side engine compartment/back wheel area. It sounds as if the car is beyond repare (insurance wise) and now I'm faced with preparing to argue with the insurance company about the cost of the car. What is the going/average price for a mechanically sound 1976 2.0L 914???
Please reply as soon as possible. My 'trial' begins at high noon tomorrow should the insurance company offer me some absurd amount of money for the destruction THEIR driver caused.
The car was: never crashed, never wrecked, had all OEM parts, simply an outstanding mechanical marvel that kept my mechanic scratching his head due to its LACK of problems. I planned on keeping the car until I could not raise myself out of the drivers seat and, even after the crash, it still runs pretty good, its just bent out of shape.

I paid $4000 for mine six months ago. It's in halfway decent shape. Whether it was worth what I paid or not is up for debate, but it gets me where I need to go. Your car, being in excellent shape, should be worth more.

I was surprised to not get shafted when dealing with insurance after my GTI was crashed. I hope you have an equally decent experience!
