Angry I hate F.I.

i am still having problems with the FI system on my 1.7. i guess it's going to be a complete tear down and rebuild.....
are there any options for going to a simple 2-barrel carb set-up?
also is a 2.0 VW bus motor a direct bolt in job?

thanks

What problems are you having? It's probably not terminal. There are some great resources on the web for solving FI problems. Speak to me....

I don't personally like the 2 barrell setups, but it can be done. A bus motor will go right in with the sheetmetal and motor mounts changed.

matt, so far it's been a whirlwind of issues. starting with the fuel pump stopped working. traced that to a wire goingitno the circuit board. i by-passed that to the coil terminals, however the pump runs all the time. not the usual brrrrrpp ,then stop.
the timing was waaaay off, from the PO.valves never been adjusted till now.
today i have two injectors not working. will clean them,at work tomorrow. when they all run/fire the the idle blips up and down from 1000 to 2000. i am suspect of the manifold pressure switch, but being new to this system,i am a bit lost.on the positive side, i am learning quickly.

best to all

Talking i STILL hate EFI

yes i am not fond of the system, but i have made progress today!
i got the car running and running well.....finally! after checking the trigger points, ohms on the manifold pressure sensor, signal to each injector, finally fuel pressure. yes, the pressure was off, it was enough to spray out the bleed screw with plenty of volume, but not enough to push thru the injectors.
pulled the tank up and whoooa nellie....first ,the pump was wired backwards.then i found an extra-long line with a kink and dry rotted so bad it was seeping when moved.
on a good 4 mile run it seems to do real well. it sits down slightly in second, but only momentarily. i suspect bad fuel still in the tank.whew, this has been a nightmare for me. normally, i a 'tops' when diagnosing a problem at work or on my toys, but this really had me baffled.

thanks to everyone for the PM's, Emails and encouragement!!

best to all

Djet is really simple and pretty easy to fix. Dirty fuel will cause problems, along with bad grounds, mis-adjusted valves, mis-adjust timing etc. Solve all the basic tuneup issues first!
then tackle the FI problems.
Vacuum leaks due to old hoses, re-used gaskets, bad injector inner seals can cause the idle "hunting" .
