Just picked up a 75 914 52,xxx orig miles. Has been sitting in my friends garage for the last 5 years, orig .paint, interior and motor. Never hit and the big question, no rust issues. I'll put up pics when I get her home. First autox this sunday.
Now do I keep it stock or start that on that long slippery slope.............

If I where you I would leave to drive it as is. I learned to drive on a stock 914 1.7 and now that I have moved up to higher HP cars I am a better driver for it. You learn how to use momentum a lot better. I had a 2.0 that I kept the engine stock but when to town on tires and suspension. So I kept the stock look with all the handling goodies. That car was a BLAST and I was able to run in the Red group just fine in DE. Best wishes and can't wait to see pictures, - Jay

Thanks Jay,
Have a few seasons under my belt autoxing w/ my 88-911 before I sold it, so I'm thinking handling should be roughly the same, just slower

WOW, if you think the handling will be the same you are in for a treat. I have a '85 911 and my 914 would smoke it on a AX. Even at DE events there aren't many cars I couldn't catch in the turns. I would stay with just about anything (except maybe another 914). The saying "Power is nothing without control" was made for for a 914. Your in for a treat! Best wishes - Jay
PS - Remember, the brake is not your friend in a 914. "TAP AND GO!"

Here is a handling experiment for you. Find a friend with roughly the same driving experience as you. Have him drive your 911. Go to an autocross. Get him to agree to a bet to pay $20 a second for the difference in your times with the cash going to the faster driver. He should go for it. He gets the 911 right? Take him to dinner after the autocross and buy. It will make him feel better about you sucker punching him with the bet!
These are two totally different animals. I went to a driving school about 20 years ago and Dick Turner divided us up into three groups. Front drive, Rear drive, 911. What other car lifts its legs in corners, understeers, oversteers, and spins when you lift at just the wrong time?
Congratulations on your new (old) car. You are in for a treat.
