VDO Tach help
Looking for a little help here from my Porsche brothers and sisters....
I have a newly acquired 1995 Mexican Beetle...
It has a VDO 3 1/8 "Cockpit Royale" tach installed that was not wired up...
I wired it up as directed (12 volts of switched power, grounded properly, pick up wired to the negative side (terminal 15) of the coil) yet nothing happens! It doesn't do a thing! The lights work but that is all. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hey guy,
I don't know if this is your problem, but I do know that terminal 15 is not the negative side of the coil. Terminal 15 always goes to the ignition switch and is positive. The negative side of the coil is terminal 1 which goes to the points (and through them to ground when they are closed). If you need to connect your tach to the negative side please move the connection to terminal 1. If you have a pointless ingnition system, terminal 15 should still be the wire that comes from the ignition switch. You might want to verify this with a 12V test light.
