hard to tell, leaves everywhere, though, the front fender & header panel show some rust. I rested my hand where the driver's seat would have been, floor (there) was mostly solid.

Look at the longitudionals, inner and outer , behind the lower side valences (if they are even still there...) and see how bad the rust is. Then of course under the battery tray and the bodywork under it. Really look carefully there as the pass side rear suspension attachments all depend on that sheetmetal. If that's bad I wouldn't think the body is worth saving. I love 914-6's but realistically speaking you're not restoring a 4-cam speedster! I used to think 15 years ago the 6 would be the next speedster, but while prices have stayed steady, they're not crazy...
Take the top off and put down the windows and see how easily the doors open and close. I've seen some 14's that nearly fold in half when you try and do that.
If you can get it for a song the parts alone are worth it...

Mark, you'll like having a 914 in your stable (I also have a 911 and 928)...definitely not as refined of a ride (read smooth) but man does it handle like a gocart. Will run rings around other cars in an AX. I'm currently putting a 3.2l carrera engine in mine..need the power!

I'm pretty sure I'll be selling the entire car as-is. I went back to the car last night & snapped more pictures, looking for rust, but barely found any! Body lines are straight, & verified that the engine is the original '69 year mfgr'd 914-6 powerplant. Once I find out how much I will have to pay for the car, I will set a reasonable price for this restorable car.
BTW: it has been prepped (18 years ago) for paint, so all the trim & such has already been removed & is in storage at the owner's house I'm told.
Mark. (email me for pictures (faster for me to provide them that way): Mark-jra@sbcglobal.net

The 914-6 rear bumber is different than on the 914-4..one in good condition is valuable..
Good luck on the restoration. I have been working on mine for 25 years..

I am interested in the rear valance if it is in reasonably good condition (needs paint is ok, and maybe even some small dings but not rusted out.)
I am also interested in the rear chrome bumper if it is also in good condition. I already have one original six bumper in a box but it needs some chrome work and some grinding.
I want some other parts as well, but will need to think about it. The front engine mount if not rusted would be nice. The heat exchangers. The engine case. The combination guage. The engine wiring harness would also be nice to have in a box for another day. The rear calipers, if in good rebuildable condition would be worth a few pennies, particularly if they have spacers and vented rotors. I have one set of those now, but who knows how long they will last.
Why do these things come up when I have no play money?? Keep me in mind though. I might be able to scare up some.

My 928 is the result of a rear end collision to my 914/6 by some nut at a stop sign. Eventually, I needed knee surgery and have been advised to cease using stick shift cars. So I bought the 928 automatic after searching for a long time.
The more I drive it the more I like it. Must be my age. I also like that year because of the transmission. Now I am searching for a way to put either a Boxster tiptronic into my six or to fabricate an electronic shifting (clutchless) method, and may choose a sportomatic. But the 928 is the best of both worlds IMO, though not a match for the raw and simple 914/6 in the mountains. Pure sensuality. For open road travel though, the 928 is the best; I have already driven across this country twice and am disappointed when those trips end.

Yup !! My 911 fever is waning the longer I use my 928. Ergonomically, it is the best GT car I have driven. The got it right with this one. I also wasn't a gadget man until I spent a few hours in the 928 at triple digit speeds. Power windows/seats/mirrors and AC were not in my vocabulary; I simply opened a window and saved weight. Well, a blast through Nevada or the mountains in Colorado will change all of that thinking. And what a forgiving thing it is. I keep hearing a voice saying: "Don't lift. Don't lift. It will stick. And it does." Can't do that in a 911.
Hey, I thought this was a 914 forum .....!! Sorry for my enthusiasm.
