Question 914-6 Exhaust, headers question

I was looking to get some stainless header w/heat and found two sources.

B&B makes headers with heat at 1 3/4 or 1 5/8 diameter and GHL motorsports makes a 1 5/8 header with heat.

Anyone have any experience with these products?

Also, is the bigger diameter pipe better for my engine which is a 3.2l that's been ported/polished with GE 60's and J&E pistons?

Are there other alternatives I might have missed?

Thanks.

Default RE: Headers

I'd love to know what those headers with heat boxes are costing.

What are you doing about your muffler?

The only thing I can source is the OEM hotdog style on Pelican Parts.

I was after something meatier.Twin pipes maybe. Found anything nice?

Regards,

Rufus.

Rufus,

I have a Dansk dual inlet single outlet muffler.

Dansk also makes dual inlet and dual outlet mufflers too.

I see their ad in Excellence magazine all the time.

I am considering a dual outlet too. It's a bit pricey though.

The cost of the headers averages to $1700 for the pair.

I'm still using my factory six heat exchangers but they are throttling the power output of my engine.

Default Muffler.

They do a twin pipe version? I haven't come across it anywhere. Do you recall where you saw it?

How's the Dansk for noise? Loud?

Rufus

Rufus,

Thanks.

Signal Orange, that's right.

Not loud at all.

There's a picture in their ad in Excellence and I phone the Dansk rep and he said there is one.

I think I saw one one another person's car too.

Default Dansk

I like the stock look of it.

The sounds levels are important for the neighbours and my hearing too. These things are noisy enough IMO.

Also it won't cost £££££££/ $$$$$$$ like a custom made item would.

You've taken off the rear valance. Is that for the GT look?

Regards,

Rufus.

The rear valance is a heat trap, so I took it off. Also, the new muffler pipe is at a different location so I'm going to modify the valance to fit and cut some slats in it to the air flows through it.

Looks totally stock.

here is more info on what I have done to the car.

In general on other motors (as I am not lucky enough to be powered by a 6) the smaller diameter preserves low end power while the larger diameter opens up the top end a bit.
Dansk is an original equipment provider to Porsche in fact the original banana on the 4 is often a Dansk. They are very high quality and flow very well. I have a Dansk on my Boxster. Sounds quiet until you ask for more and then the devil behind the seats awakes!
What is your 3.2 out of?

A guy in Germany builds a muffler which I used for my 914/6. Great look and great sound. Check it out on:

One of these mufflers is currently on eBay:

Default muffler.

That's exaclty the sort of thing. Brillliant!

Any more details on the German company. I'm in Europe so it would make sense to deal direct.

Rufus.

Yes, send them an email and they should answer your questions.

The ad was saying that the normal price was 649 Euro but if you attended their summer party you could buy it for 249 on that day only. Means there is probably room to haggle on the price.

I replaced my heat exchangers last year with the B&B. I had to send them back because they did not fit (the muffler could not be installed because the two tail pipes did not line up). The looked good but appeared to be built by someone who never saw a 914-6. I then bought the GLH. Fit and finish was much better. Very happy with the GLH.
