Default 6 or 4

Hey Guys,
Putting the value a side, what would you rather have. A 914-6 or a 914 2.0? I am sure most of you will probably say the 6, but is there anyone who will stand up for the 2.0? (I love this guy)

the six the six! I've got both a 914-4 and a 911 SC. The 914-4 handles so well but just doesn't put in the back of your seat when you punch the gas pedal like the 911 does. My plans are to try to find a 2.7 or 3.0 to convert my 4 with. I'm concentrating on a 2.7 (get them cheaper due to their not being real popular) because it is the largest displacement where I can still use the stock flywheel.

I've ridden in a converted 4 to a 3.0l and it is unbelievable.

I'll say six. However...

I have driven my 2.0 for about three years now, strictly track use, autocross, DE, and time trial. It was a GREAT setup to learn how to drive. The car is not overpowered but balanced very well, and you have plenty of power to get it sideways coming out of corners. It's slow on long straights, but that doesn't matter when you're learning how to brake, apex, etc.

The four is holding me back now, though, so in goes the six! Anyone wanting to purchase my strong 2.0 complete with FI and header, let me know.

I've had a '73 2.0, a '73 1.7, and my current '70 914-6.
All the cars were stock engine. I like them all, and I have
to admit that I'm of the school that sports cars are different
from 'high performance' cars.

The 914-6 is not going to suck out your fillings (maybe under
braking), and it is only marginally faster than the 2.0 - 4. But
I like it the most of the three, partly because of the sound,
and of course all the other Porsche stuff that it got like the
911 brakes and wheels.

Have had both, a factory '71 914'6 and still have my original '71 914-4 (much modifiied with all factory 6 suspension and brakes) and original '73 2.0. The 6 was a modded 2.4 and an absolute blast- the engine sound alone was worth it! For a great Sunday afternoon atitiude adjustment, you can't go wrong with either. Can't keep everything and the '71 4 was my first car and very sentimental so I could never part with it so the 6 had to go. Still miss the sound, but the GT3 makes up for it...

I love my 4 banger 2.0. Simply, because it makes you work that much harder to go fast on the track. However, I do wish I had a six if for nothing else the sound! Best wishes - Jay Gratton

I've had a 4 and have a 6, I'd say six. The sound and ever since I plugged in a 3.2 it's so fast I can't believe it. I think to to steer and think to accelerate.

You might want to search the forums at 914club.com. There have been numerous threads comparing owning, to doing the conversion, price, etc, of a big four (>2.3) vs six. Doing any conversion will cost $$$ if you don't cut any corners. Do it once and do it right :-)

Neither!
I'm planning on doing a double, yes 2 Hayabusa engine swap (along with their transmissions) in my 914, and I hope to start soon. I have access to 2 of these awesome bikes (they're both wrecked).
I've already taken measurements, and planned it all out!
With a little intake and exhaust work, each engine will produce 190hp (172whp). Hmmm......2.6 liters, 8 cylinders, 380hp, and a 11,000 redline! F**K the Honda's and Ferrari's!
That's all I can disclose at this time.
I wonder if I can patent this idea.........

LOL! Wasn't there a citron (sp?) 2cv that had two engines and transmissions? I think you're idea sounds much cooler than what they did :-)
