Default 914 wiring harness

I have a 75 914-4 that we are working on converting to a 914-6 with a hot 2.2. I have decided that the wiring harness that the car has is just to much of a mess to deal with and I would like to put a new harness in. I would much rather buy a fully put to gether wiring harness that is ready to install then have to put a wiring harness from scratch together. My question is can any one give me a good suggestion on where I can find such a thing.

Thanks

I know they're out there but don't know the sources by name. If you get no response here in a couple days, try 914club.com or pelicanparts.com and go their 914 forums. I know I've seen this discussion there.... good luck.

I think Im looking for an aftermarket wiring harness. So do you suggest this "Painless wiring harness". Can you tell me where I can find this wiring harness.

Thanks

As far as I know, Painless does not have 914 main wiring harnesses available. They make them primarily for beetles, sand buggies and specialty hot rod cars mostly.

The main wiring harnesses do not typically go bad becasue they are not subject to heat or abuse...unless the PO has hacked at it too much. If you truly need a replacement main harness, the best way to go is probably to find an NOS (good luck) or used original harness. I am sure High Performance House in Redwood City, CA or some of the other 914 used parts houses would be able to supply you.

A brand new harness if they were even available now, would easily be over $1000, probably double that.
