"Ratty" 914-6
My brother has owned a 1971 914-6 since around 1978. It has approx 70k miles on it but it has not been driven (stored in his barn) since the early 90's. Therefore, I assume it's going to need work to get it on the road again. It's got Fuchs and a spoiler on the front. In addition, it's been re-painted and it was hit on the driver side but it was professionally repaired. What is an approximation of what it is worth? Both of us have no idea because there are so few of them for sale.
Thanks for your help!

A non-running 914/6 with the real Vin 914 ###### start at around $2500 and go up depending on condition.
Is all of the car there? complete and not in boxes
How much rust is there? alittle, lots, or tons? Look under the seats, under the battery tray and the rockers. Lots of rust and its a $1500 parts car.
If complete and not a basket case get it running and its a $5000+ car.
If you get it to decent shape all cleaned up then it could be a $8000
If its running good, drives decent and ok looking then a $10k car
The price is determined by condition as these are expensive cars to restore.
Ones with the original 2.0L are just basic cars and not all that fast. Lots of them have been upgraded to 2.7 or 3.0l cars and those get into the 14k-20k price.
Original sweet or restored examples run into the high 20's

Good condition and running...stock, 10K.
I just sold an excellent 914/6 conversion for 16K plus.....the PO had more in it, but I picked it up for pennies on the dollar and finished it.
Be careful it could be a money pit unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the info guys. He's up in NY (I'm in Florida) so I gave him a call to go look at the rust situation on the car. It was always in storage over the winter and I don't recall it having any rust. I'll post more on the condition when he gets back to me.

I'm bringing this post back from the dead!
My brother told me he'd sell me the car for $2500. He doesn't have a digital camera to send me pics of it (to see the condition) but when my niece gets back in town, I'm going to see if she will take pics of it for me. The car is in NY, I'm in Oklahoma now (formally in Florida) and I would have it shipped to me. When I get the pics I'll post for comments. As far as I know, the only non-stock items are the front spoiler, the exhaust, and I believe the transmission was replaced but I know that the engine is the original. Anything besides the earlier comments (check for rust, etc) that I should look for to help determine if it's a good value or a money pit or both!
Thanks!

Condition is everything. Last year, restored, "100pt" cars were selling in the low 30K range. However, some would argue that the "vin" alone is worth $3-5K... more if there is a car attached.
Also, be prepared to do a lot of "reconditioning" if its been sitting for 20 years. Brake lines, fuel lines, carb rebuild, clean fuel tank. Rear brake calipers are nearly unobtainium.
Be sure to check out www.914world.com and 914club.com for more 914 info. The rennlist 914 section is sparsly used.

RUST? RUST? RUST???? If body is tight, lots of little things can be replaced... a money pit, but many old Porsches are a labor of love.... especially for us 914 fans... pix please!!!

Based on the serial number it is a 1970. The fourth digit is a 0 which is the year it was built. It still would be interesting to see the title and see if somehow it was titled as 1971 because of year sold. Jim

Agreed- it is a 1970 by the serial number. Front spoiler is some kind of 916 lookalike. Easily replaced if body underneath is ok...surprised the tires have that much air in them unless you just pumped them up!
