I agree that we need to know more before we pass judgement. Please keep us updated.

Looks like she's wearing some Michelin XWX's !(mmm iirc, bald XWX's were one of the "hot" tires in the late '70's)

To an earlier question, I think he pumped up the tires for the picture. Also, it's amazing that you can recognize (from my poor pics) the type of tire that's on the car! I'm currently trying to get him to give me some info on any rust he sees on the car. More pics will be coming!

If she's not too rusty, my wishful thinking is telling me (with a lot of luck) that I might be able to get her ready for autocross season around here!

Front bumper is IMSA air dam that can be purchased from many reputable fiberglass p-parts supplier. Looks promising. Dusty does not mean rusty...

Hi guys, I have a 1970 914-6.

Those look like the stock wheels, which I think were 5.5" x 15" (can't recall). Mine has not been started in about ten years or so.

If I may, the hood badge is not stock, and the driver's side mirror looks like a 914 mirror. You can tell by subtle differences, such as the twin horns and electric windshield washer pump if a 914 is an original 6er.

Mine has all the original stuff, no rust, toolkit, and a new Marelli distributor still in the box. A spare engine block from another 914-6 as a backup motor. I would not hesitate to stick to my guns at $15K+ if it were ever for sale.

The more pics the better!

Worst case: Rust everywhere; all components need rebuild/replacement.

Has it been in a "dry barn" or a "wet barn". Dirt loves to hold moisture and release it upwards into unprotected metal.

Be diligent in its revival. Even if you don't want it, someone out here still might

Many wheels were availabe - 15" Fuchs, Steelies and Mahles (gas burners) as well as 14" Fuchs.

My father-in-law has a real 914-6 as well. He always jokes that all 914s have rust lurking somewhere. He lives in upstate NY and if your brother was active in PCA, they may even know each other. I sent him one of the photos to see if he recognizes the car. I say grab it.

I spoke to my bro and he said the battery box was repaired back in the 80's, there is a little rust starting at the bottom of the driver's door, the windshield is cracked, there is a dent on the passenger door, and the interior seats are brittle. Also, I believe that the original front bumper has been removed and he doesn't have it. He does have the leather tool kit though! He also said he had a brand new set of headers/ansa exhaust on it (brand new back in the 80's) and he had replaced the rear taillights with euro lenses. Not sure what the difference is. He also said the speedo reads just over 60k miles which he believes is accurate.

I asked him to inspect the battery box, remove the rocker panels and take pictures of what he finds, and see if he sees any other rust on it. He's going to try and do it this weekend pending the weather. I'll post his pics as soon as I get them.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Oh....sounds like a rust bucket to me. You really don't want it...too much work. I insist that I take it off your hands....I won't even charge you. Feel free to ship it to Charlotte at your earliest convenience so I can get that old rusty thing out of your life...

euro rear lenses have yellow outer lenses whereas USA are all red... front euro are red top, white or clear bottom 1/4. Italian are all clear (I have those on mine as they look great with a silver body- just have yellow bulbs)

Dang it Bob, you beat me to the offer. I live closer and I will go get it for free myself. No need to have that bucket sitting around taking up space and your time.
