Default Vintage Car and Drive Mag 914 Test

Some of you have probably seen this, but it is special for me. This comparison test almost got me to wish for a 914 in 1973. Instead, I fell for the winner, the Fiat 124 Spider. I managed to get one a couple of years later, from an insurance salvage lot. My first 914 had to wait another 15 years.

I saw one for sale about three years ago not far from my house when I still had my 914. I took a pass as a comparsion to my 73 2.0. Didn.t regret it.

I do miss my 914 after selling it......an now somewhat regretful.

I would like to have back at least 10 of my previous cars.

When we sold our home in IA after 33+ years I threw away or gave away 30+ years of R&T, C&D, etc. I vaguely remember that issue. One of my best friends had a 124 coupe and later a 914 2.0 (which I now have) and my college roommate had a 124 spider. Other than the rust issues that was a great car to cruise in. I always look at those (only the pre big bumper cars) on BAT and think it would be fun to have one... until I come to my senses and realize it is a FIAT!!!

Took the silver '71 to a local P car C&C this AM in Scottsdale. Starting to plan its 50th birthday party this coming September... should do it on the 14th...

You could celebrate a couple of weeks earlier at the annual Durango car show.

the 124 was a terrific car back then, and was the conventional choice over some mid engined air cooled headlights in the wrong place revolutionary design. NOW years later all of the Fiats are gone and the 914s are still here, still modern in their old age!
