Default nice to have a great 914 driver

In these times where the value of 914s has become so high as to be unreasonable, and too many fussy concours types have entered the arena restoring 914s to such a level that they are un drivable, it is so nice to see one that can actually be driven but is still nice enough for a fairly picky 914 guy like me:

1975 914 zambezi green with buckskin 1.8, original paint never rusted or crashed, gut plenty of original patina 122 thousand miles: some nicks and dings, dash cracked, first gear scratches, rear springs are sagging a bit, needs some shifter bushings, but just runs so great with the 1.8 afc fuel injection and heavier bumpers that make it feel more stable. The blaupunkt am fm isn't bad either! My new driver! NOW I do not need to worry about a door ding

Looks like a nice driver but you'll never convince me those god-awful bumpers make the car better in any way!!! Is that a big dent right behind the driver's door??

I like originality as much as anyone but if I found a nice '75-76 the first thing I'd do is back date the bumpers... to each their own.

Not bad George. Most of that interior looks pretty nice as well as the shinyness of the paint. Seems like a nice driver. Have to agree with skl on those bumpers though. You have to have a decent set of the earlier bumpers you could throw on there to clean up the look a bit more, unless as a DD, you prefer the extra protection for the car from those who parallel park using the braille method.

I really really like those bumpers, looking at the 916 I have I can see exactly where they got the design. PLUS the cars are more stable when driving down the interstate.

I’ll second the bumpers. I’d never trade my chrome early ones, but the bubs have really grown on me over the years.

certainly the beauty is in the chrome bumpers no doubt, Porsche never would have changed them if not for federal standards, but that is the way of the world, more and more as the years of the auto industry went by. Some of it was good though (like the power the manufacturers finally got out of engines.
I have our dent guy coming tomorrow to take the dents out (yes the one behind the door as well) Plus a few things to make it more pleasant to drive like the shifter bushings and sagging rear springs and the sponge in the brake pedal, but still WOW what a car

For “affordable” parts, See 900 Designs/ 914 Rubber. Lots of great quality, well made parts. https://900designs-container.zoeysite.com/

congrats on your find and ignore the bumper opinions. Always amazed how people offer unsolicited opinions.

enjoy your new ride. 914s are a blast.

Bob, you may not know but dr914 is George H, the owner of Automobile Atlanta. He knows more about 914s and has more parts than likely anyone else in the world.

We were just discussing how an original paint never been rusted 914 no matter how many miles is far superior to 914s that have been through the mill. AND the paint still waxes up great. (have not been driving it recently WAY too much rain this last month and today as well). The 1.8 engine with the afc fuel injection is the smoothest driving 914 of them all, much less troublesome, and simpler in design. I would MUCH rather drive this car than a six or a 2.0 ANY DAY

i know him very well. I purchased a GT front valence from him whose dimensions were so off a body shop would have had to cut it apart and reassemble it to reconfigure it to get even close. The cost would have been exorbitant. I also complained to him that his site showed the example in black rather than the white one I received. His response was not an apology or wanting to make it right, just a too bad, they come in white. No offer to take it back for credit or reimbursement. It may have been the last one in stock since they were no longer offered.

It ended up in my garbage can after taking a sazall to it. Yup, I know George.

On the other hand, any issues I have had with 914 Rubber were quickly resolved, with an apology for any inconvenience.

I inadvertently messed up a letter on the PORSCHE script purchased from them and contacted them to buy a new letter or the whole script if necessary. I was told a new letter would be in the mail same day at no charge. I received it in two days. Now that is customer service and a company I want to do business with.

Quick Reply: nice to have a great 914 driver
