New to me 1976 Porsche 914
Hi everyone! For quite some time I have been wanting a 914 and until now I saw a good chance and pulled the trigger. I already own other classic cars and I have restored them all from a similar condition to this 914. This is a project but seems quite all there. No engine which I'll seek to resolve with a correct 2.0.
I am aware of the rust issues in the engine bay, but after restoring an FJ40 with even more rust I'm not that scared to undertake it. I am more of a purist and will do best to keep it as original as possible.
I bought the 914 in a Copart auction in Baton Rouge, LA. I am in the Houston, TX area so I'll pick up this next Monday.
Below are the pictures from the auction and I'll upload pictures of the actual car when I have it in my hands.
I welcome your two cents and any input and direction you can give me.
I've already had a new 2.0 engine rebuilt for my former 1979 VW Campervan Westfalia, and I'm looking forward to that much better stance and five speed transmission.
The color under the pop up headlights appears to be pop orange. If it was changed I'll repaint it original.
Full VIN on display. 4762901831
I recall some place to buy the seat insert cloth. Dash looks cracked, I wonder if there are dash covers available?
Though sun toasted, they seem all there.
No evident body damage.
Some bubbling below on the rear panel, not too much.
Engine is AWOL but as it has rear tires it is supposed to have the transmission in.
Again seems solid.
Low mileage, I doubt it is more than that.
Again seems solid.

Welcome to the 914 and rusty project car clubs. I would suggest making a very detailed survey of all the likely 914 rust spots (hell hole under the battery, inner and outer sills, floor, rear fenders below the targa side panels, base of windshield, etc.) before any mechanical work. And if hell hole rust has reached down into the sills and right suspension mount, the car will be a very "fun" challenge. Good luck.

Good luck with it - you've got some work ahead of you, but that's the point, right? First thing to do is remove the roof and see what happens to the top door gap and whether the doors open and close without sticking - that's a quick chassis assessment test.

nice to see that there are still remnants of the original orange plaid, so be sure to redo it with that material, and by all means take the color back to the nepal orange, it is a fabulous color for a 76.
