Default 914 1.7 fuel pump?

Hi guys,
We recently bought a signal orange 71-914 that's been sitting since 1988 if I’m correct. The owner had pulled the fuel pump and it was laying in the trunk when we bought it.
We cleaned it and gave it 12V and it’s clearly spinning but is there a way to actually see if it’s working?
It won’t suck strong enough to suck from a glass so suspect it’s something wrong with it?
Have searched all over for replacement pumps but there seem to be none out there.
How would the crowd proceed?

Thanks!
/Peter

Back when I was deep into 914’s.
We moved the fuel pump to under the fuel tank in front.
this eliminated the fuel pump vapour locking due the the heat.

the three nipples are labeled D S and R. Connect fuel lines to the three, and put the S and R lines into a bucket of mineral spirits, and the D into an empty bucket. Connect 12 volts to the positive and neg and watch the operation and let it run for awhile to clean out the pump and lubricate it. There are rebuilt pumps available (we have them) and later model replacement pumps with adaptive hose and filter (we have them), but you should be able to resurrect yours.
