Back in the saddle...914 project
This is my first Rennlist post in about 5 years or so...since my '86 951 got totaled. I'm excited to be back in the saddle again, this time with a 914 project. I'm picking up where somebody else left off, but it looks like they got off to a good start: cage was built to a high standard and I can't find a single spot of rusty metal...anywhere (not even the hell hole). I bought it as-is, just a rolling chassis...the history of the car is unknown to me. My plan is to build a dual-purpose street/track car, so the cage will stay. Big decisions will be: 1.) which powertrain option and 2.) whether to retain fiberglass fenders and bumpers or replace with widebody steel. I'm sure I will brood over wheel options for a while, too. Planning to convert to 5-lug and swap in 911 front suspension/brakes. I have every original part that was removed from the car (less the motor), as well as a 4-spd tranny. It's gonna be a big project, and I'm sure I'll need some help along the way......Rennlist is such an awesome resource...feels good to be back!

Thanks...I totally agree. Hard to tell from the photos, but the fiberglass panels are all riveted to the steel panels behind them. If they stay, they will likely be replaced with dzus fittings or larger stainless rivets. The fiberglass so much easier than new widebody steel...it just doesn't present as nicely.

The rear cage seems to impeded the throttle body on LS motor (the bar between the rear strut towers), so the LS option just got crossed off the powertrain list.
Would love to keep everything Gernan if possible. If anybody is looking to unload an air-cooled 911 motor/tranny for the right price.....please let me know. My goal for the car is 300 HP.
