No, no... (See the smiley face at the bottom...), I was just kidding...

I actually like the idea that he thinks his 912 can beat a Spec Box... Something to look forward to when I run my 912 against my Spec Box buddies, (in DE's), when it's done in 2017.....

Well, I think that my 912 can beat a (poorly driven) spec boxster because it has, in PCA club racing, even back with a 9.5:1 compression ratio. No aspersions on your driving; I can't get near a well-driven spec boxter.

Like I said above, I was kidding about that... Once I got into my 60's I stopped worrying about place and more about fun!!! That's very nice to run down even a poorly driven Spec Box with an almost 50 year old 4 cyl 912! Do you ever race out here in California? or plan to?

Also, curious what kind of Hp/torque and power/weight ratio your 912 currrently have.

I haven't raced in CA, but I'm thinking of trying to enter at Rennsport V at Laguna Seca next year. If you get Victory Lane, I wrote the piece about racing the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix at Schenley Park in this month's issue. In its 9.5:1 incarnation it made 107 hp on the dyno and weighed 1745 lbs. It hasn't been dyno'ed since then, but it's all apart getting major upgrades, and it might make around 140 hp and weigh maybe 1725 lbs. when it's all done.

Edit: "When it's all done." There's a laugh! Anybody who races knows that nothing is ever done, and just when you think it is, that's when it all blows up!

I've raced at Laguna many times and it is really fun!! Good luck getting picked for Rennsport as I hear it's quite selective...

By the way, love your edit...so true!!! Putting new bearing and rotors on the Spec Box Friday...

Tearing the engine down and cleaning up and assessing what needs to be replace. Had to fab up a tool to get the exhaust valves out as my valve compression tool would not fit the exhaust valves.

s cool.It did the job!!I've got a Harley Dav. sprinh comp. I always used on Porsche,s.I built my RS America and bought the gt3 cause ny lawyer is a PCA junkie and I went a few times with him. They were such snobs I built the car to wipe em up.Then I decided that was childish and didn't.do it.I used to drive Can Am and Group B in the latter part of the last century.Nobody ever accused us of being sane.

Very resourceful thinking

On the P&C set. I went with these:

And a link to another engine build... figured, if like me, the more reference threads/photos, the better...

Jerry's 912 engine rebuild

Got the crankshaft back from the machine shop and it checked OK and they were able to polish it at 2nd under size. Ordered new bearing and a seal and gasket kit.

Looking at Web racing cams and for the 68 912 they list a narrow and wide lobe, I am guessing the narrow lobe? I want the hot street cam 281http://www.webcamshafts.com/index_blank.html?pages/vehicle_search.html

Got the bearing in and did a test fit on the crank with the #1 bearing and one of the rods, the play seems way to sloppy. Anyone know what the max amount of play I should have?
