Any one go to a big bore kit?
Decided to overhaul the engine over the Fall and Winter. I would like to get some more power out of the engine, thinking about going to a big bore piston and cylinders, also a maybe a hi performance Weber cam, and the 123 distributor with programmable power curves.
Hoping to hear about your experiences with any of the above or other suggestions for adding some more power to the 912.

Well, my 912 is a full race car, but yes, 1720 cc, medium compression pistons (10.5:1 so I don't have a firecracker engine), mild race cam (same reason), etc. No programmable distributor, as that is not legal for vintage racing in my class.

We used Mahle.I don't know if they make a kit for a 912.It was great stuff, but not cheap.I talked to the guy who does some work for me.He does some 912 work for people. He said Scat makes a good kit and not too expensive.Sorry,I'm new here and I didn't even know this was a 912 forum.
I joined a couple days ago to sell my gt 3 rs.I'm lucky I sold it on my own.The GT 3 rs sale listings are crazy.Good luck.I think you'll be glad you did it.I was.

Mine is dedicated vintage racecar, solely for on-track use. Street use has one set of requirements. Vintage racing has another. Rally's (which are rare) yet another. Hillclimbs (even rarer) yet another. You can build a car that will do all of these, but it won't do any of them well. As you get into it you may want to perform better, which sends you down one path or another. My car is built for road racing on a track, and to be fast yet reliable. Unfortunately, reliability comes at the cost of speed. A higher compression ratio would be faster, but would also result in frequent engine rebuilds, which isn't in my budget.

I doubt you will get 125 hp with 9.5 compression ratio. At that compression ratio and 1720 cc, the best I ever got was 107 hp on the dyno. Oh, and you can buy 91 octane without ethanol at pretty much any fuel supplier that has racing fuel. It's widely used in farm vehicles.
My racing 912 can beat a poorly driven Spec Boxter.

Afraid he's right about the hp on a normally asp. engine.Hyundai just came out with a 1.6 litre 4 cyl. that dyno,s over 1,000 hp.
Nice boxter, man.I live on a pretty good sized farm and get my fuel delivered by CO-OP careful,it's tax evasion and there are markers in it.i'VE GOT A 68 z-28 Camaro with a dz-302 in it.It's got the mildest cam(Duntov) but it's 12:1 with solid roller lifters and I run it on pump gas when I'm just driving around town.Different for vint. Trans Am races.Good Gas and a stage 1 or 2 cam.Powerband is 5500 to 8500

That's how I took it,but what do I know..Like I said, nice Boxter. There's a reason I stay off the internet.I just signed up to sell my gt3.Turns out I didn't even have to.The guy who had the Ford GT I wanted just traded me when he found out what I was doing.I bought it for my birthday 8 years ago, drove it home from the docks in NY and haven't driven it since.
