How can I tell by VIN if this is soft window or glass window targa?
Hello,
I'm looking at a 1968 912 that has been modified into cabriolet. The current owner knows that the car was originally targa, but doesn't know if it was soft window or hard window targa.
I've searched and googled everywhere...
How can I find out, with the vin number if this 912 was original SW or HW?

You can try the guys on 912bbs.org (the 912 registry site), or you can order a COA from Porsche NA for $90 if you're a PCA member.
I'm trying to find the history of my 912 coupe, and the best advice has been to work with the Certificate of Authenticity to find the original equipment on the car. I did it with my 996 with mixed results, but it's about the only route available, unless you can somehow find the Cardex on it.

Yes the CoA is your only option.
Targa HW or SW where never denominated by their VIN.
