Post Upgrade 912 engine to a 3.0 liter.

I am looking to put a 3.0 in my 1967 912.
The body and chasis are strong and I like the short wheel base of the '67 912, but am seeking more power. Where do I find a solid 3.o engine, and is this a good idea...pros and/or cons. Thanks for your time. csabc@aol.com

There was a discussion on this question in, I believe, Volume 10 of Up-Fixin'. They said the 901 transmission in the 912 couldn't handle the output from a 3.0L engine. The basic advice was, if you want a 3.0L engine Porsche, buy one that's engineered for it. They also said if you happen to have a 912 and a 3.0L engine and wanted to marry the two, have a blast. Yes, a bit contradictory. Remember when you upgrade the engine to consider upgrading the brakes too. You can find engines from places like Parts Heaven and other Porsche used parts recyclers. Pano may list some for sale also. You may also want to go with a larger rear torsion bar due to the added weight of the larger engine.

Quick Reply: Upgrade 912 engine to a 3.0 liter.
