Default 912E pricing

Greetings air-coolers...I usually only frequent the 944/951 forums but a friend at work asked me to look into something for him. He is selling his 76 912E and isn't sure what it is worth. It has 139K miles, white, plaid interior?, sunroof delete, 14" Fuchs, original Blaupunkt cassette w/ microphone recorder. Says the body is near mint. He has owned it for 10 years and has all records back 20+ years. Any idea what rough $$$ range he might be looking at for a orig. California car? I'm just trying to help him, not buy it myself.

Thanks,

Steve

http://www.912registry.org/faqs/value.htm

also it depends.. mostly on originality.

go to bbs912.org and talk to the 912E guys, as they would have better answers for you. sounds like a good car.. dont know bout sunroof delete, but sounds cool regardless.

hows engine. whats been done? orginal Fi system or carbs? thermal reactors? sunroof delete may hurt value.

im not an e expert.. but i can give some info. talk to the bbs912.org guys, they may be of better help.

Thanks
I passed this link onto the seller so he can follow up on any of this info. I guess "no sunroof" is more accurate. On the 944's where the sunroofs are the norm, the term sunroof delete is a plus with those looking for a track car. Were many of the 911E's converted to carbs? I get the feeling from what I've read that the CIS system wasn't exactly without it's share of problems. Seems like buggy electronics aren't just a Lucas Electric thing.

you want the stock injection on these cars.. carbs will drop the value like a fly. there was no such thing as a 912 E that didnt come with a sunroof.
they ALL had sunroofs. bosch L jet fuel injection could be a pain.. but still better with it on that carbs. (it was either L or J jet.. cant remember)

Harry, FYI, they only made 500 of the 912E coupes in 1976. I was the happy owner of a beuatiful 912E sunroof coupe for 14 years and went to an 88 Carrera for power only. 912E's are great cars, but the 86-90 HP above 85 MPH sucks. You're right in saying it should have the fuel injection to keep it's value. Problem is the boot from the flapper box to the throttle body is non-existent if you have a damaged one. That was another reason to get the Carrera....parts are plentiful. I dearly enjoyed the 912E, selling was like losing a member of the family.

there were aprox 2099 912Es made in 75/76 (model year 76). all were coupes to my knowlege (there is word that there were a few targas made, but no one has verified this, or found such a beast).

if 500 of those were non-sunroof coupes, i could see that as a special option i guess, but have never seen or heared of one; all 911s that year came std with sunroof, and non sunroof was an option (extra $$ for that), and you could get same options with the 912E.. so yeah, i could see that. ive never seen one though. all i have known or seen hav been sun roof coupes.

as for the fi.. you can find the parts, you just need to scavange the right parts from the 914s (one year had same injection system), or other 912es. as for power.. you can get pleanty of power, with the right engine builder; jake raby.

Harry, what have you been smoking? The 2.7 911s (74-77) didn't have a standard equipment sunroof, it was optional and big bucks no less. The 912E was a strippo version of the base 911 so it makes sense to assume that not all 912E's would have been equipped with sunroofs.

Here's what the 912 Registry says:

"Many 912E came equipped with sunroofs, rumored at 500 (25%)._ Another rumor is that two 912E Targas were produced; if you have one, please contact the Registry!"

And you're usually so on the ball too...

PS: the 914 used the D-Jet F.I. on all 2.0L engines, the 912E used the L-Jet F.I. like the VW Bus/Transporter. Man... two strikes...

i never claimed to be a 912E expert.

and i never said the 2.0L 914... i believe it was the 1.7 or 1.8 914 that had L jet, if i remember tony bray's posts correctly.

and i have never seen an E with out a sunroof.

ok i suck..

that and i have my mind on other worries right now.. like rebuilding the top end of my motor, and getting the heads to the machine shop tomarrow.. and worrying that somthing might go wrong with the bottom end, even though it seems tight, you never know.. and preying i dont break another valve spring.. and saving money so i can do a full rebuild in the near future (1 or 2 years)...

so there.. my heads not in the right place (hopefully this excuse works better than the fact that im still learning and dont know too much bout the E)

Hey Harry, if we all knew everything....we wouldn't be such funs guys to chat with. Keep on commenting because the forum is to pass information. Some guys won't ask questions or are reluctant to anyway. I've owned 19 Porsches since 1968 and each one has it's own little problems. Asking questions has solved many nitpicking pain in the *** problems. Oh, the 912E used the 1.8 liter L jetronic FI stuff.

You may notice that I stated that the 914 2.0L used the D-Jet F.I.... any other 914 4 cylinder engine isn't worth mentioning...

I'm just breaking your ***** Harry!
