Default 912e twins

My brother and I restored my dads 912e. It was a full disassembly, strip, repaint and reassembly project with a 2.4 type 4 added for some extra power and he seems to like it. During the work we found that a car he bought as black was originally Peru Red and we had it repainted in that color. This past weekend at a Richmond Va Cars and Coffee I was surprised to see another Peru Red 912e in the parking lot. I almost thought my dad was surprising me by showing up (different wheels betrayed that). I went by a few more times hoping to catch the owner but no luck. This one was in great shape with a slick top and maybe a dealer installed air con system. It looked great. My question is; is there any way to know how many 912e’s were finished in Peru Red from the factory? It seems crazy to me that almost 50 years after 2100 cars were sold that two of the same less than popular color would be within 50 miles of each other.
here is his car:

And here is the one seen at C&C:

Many thanks for the responses.

Too funny! I too, have a Peru Red 912E. Bought in 1981.....Didn't think there would be very many Peru Red's around.
