1968 912 wrong motor?
Vin on car shows a 1968 912 Coupe from the Karmann plant.
Motor shows from a 1966. The car was originally blue and has been repainted (not very well) to red.
Question:
1. Are there 912 motors available to make this a matching numbers car?
2. Another option is to beef up the 66 motor. It already has Webber carbs. So should I find a numbers matching motor or beef up the 66?
Goal is maximum value for resale.

Are you a flipper? Regardless, I'm not sure you understand the concept of "numbers matching". "Matching numbers" means you'd have to find the original motor and tranny, as specified by the serial numbers on the build Kardex and/or a PCNA COA. Is that possible? Maybe. Is that likely? No. And it would probably be a very long-term search. Why would you 'beef up' the '66 motor? Nobody cares. A non-matching-numbers 912 will have limited value no matter what you do to it, and screwing around with it will more likely decrease resale value than increase it. Good luck.
