EBC going crazy??
Guys,
I just got my greddy profec b spec ebc and plan to set it at 0.9 bar of boost pressure. However I heard from a few people that sometimes the boost does go a bit crazy and overshoots the set boost pressure, in my case at 0.9 bar. I'm not speaking of boost spikes here. This is only happens once in a while when it shoots way over 1 bar eventhough I would set it at 0.9 bar.
Have any of you'll experienced this before?

Funny or not so funny you should ask. I have a Profec-B and have dicked with it for the last year and can get it to overshoot on a half throttle blip mainly at cruise in 3rd or 4th. Otherwise it's rock solid but overshooting isn't acceptable in any case and I'm going back to a spring only for now. I will be selling my EBC in the next couple weeks...LOL

Are you guys sure you are not just seeing the overboost reading from the wastegate itself. My Apexi AVCR boost controller will read this when I let off the gas abruptly while under heavy boost (i.e. to shift or just left off the gas). My understanding is that the car has a built in overboost protection system that bleeds off excess pressure created during these situations (obviously if you have .9 bar of boost going and then just let off all of that pressure along with any residual incoming pressure has to be released from the system). So, for example, I could be running at 4500 RPM with a steady .9 bar and then let off the gas. When I let off, I may see 1.1 bar. This is not an indication that my engine was running at 1.1 bar, this is just the amount of pressure that was released through the waste gate. I can set my boost controller to not read this, but I haven't bothered with it.
I am not an expert with this by any means, but this is my understanding of what I am seeing (and perhaps what you are seeing).

YUP, sure that's how the Greddy controls the air through the solenoid box but I don't have any direct control over it. The Profec-B is an idiot proof EBC to operate vs. the Apexi.

The overboost readings I get used to bother me, until I played around a bit and saw they only occurred when releasing the throttle. Not to mention the fact that my recent dyno tests proved that my turbo cannot even produce more than .9 bar above 5000 RPM.

Nut sure where the guage sits - but it does read the overboost blow off - I kind of like the fact that my turbo regulates me (as opposed to the other way around) -

It's probably hooked up at the IC somewhere or does your Apexi read boost too? There is a safety catch with the 7200 at the higher rpm's since it drops boost. I rather my turbo hold 1bar all the way to redline (more power)
Sameer,
I have tried every combination of plumbing and adj. you can think of and it will still overshoot. Enough is enough, I have spent way too much time on that stupid thing to not get rid of it. Look at it this way, if your still running CIS then your fuel curve can't adj. for the lower boost.

The Talon guys love them because they really do work well in there cars. I'm sure I can sell mine for about $200. Then I will go out to dinner and blow it on a nice bottle of wine to celebrate

I paid $330 for mine, why don't you just send it back. Then get the HKS IV, Stephen swears by them and you should be able to get one for under $500. I'm just going back to the old faithful boost spring and putting my new wide band O2 in place of the stupid Greddy) It doesn't last long before I'm running high boost anyways and I always mix my gas to do so.

Brent,
I'm following your footsteps with the boost spring I currently have. I'll just stick to the 0.9 bar spring. Anyway it's still a tad bit below 1 bar on high end so I'm still in the safe range.
I dont like all these tuning thingy which is why I went with the Greddy which does not require much tuning BUT the last thing I need is the boost going crazy once in a while. It only takes a few seconds for the engine to detonate and thats something we really dont need on our expensive builts.
Tell me something, when the boost does creep closer to 1 bar with my 0.9 bar spring, isit really doing closer to 1 bar or isit still at 0.9 bar but just registering closer to 1 bar on the boost gauge??
