A very good friend of mine ordered a new Gulf Blue over black leather 930 which arrived to his home in Oklahoma City in 1985. Wann drove it for a brief period until one tragic day when going under a low RR overpass he was crushed by a semi-trailer which was too high for the overpass. The car was lightly damaged, but he was killed. The car was repaired, but underwent a color change. (Too many people knew that car and the circumstances surrounding it). I believe it was repainted some variety of red.
The car was always spotless, and featured a unique front air dam which was always problematic for him--too low for regular street driving.
Christian Moe needs to retitle this thread. Do your homework.
No dog in this fight but I saw this COA in post #266 of the "What is 79 930 turbo signature addition?" thread. I do find it hard to believe that there were 1,200 Gulf Blue 930s produced in 1979. The only Gulf Blue 930 I have personally seen was the one parked first on the 930 row at BMW Euro in 2014, I believe. My "common as dirt" Guards Red 930 was 4 or 5 cars down that row, one of the six GR 930s there.

The wording on the COA is a little odd. What we think it means to say is: Of the 1200 930s built in 1979, this is the only one that was painted Gulf Oil Blue. Hence the “1 of 1200” indication. Not that there were 1200 Gulf Oil Blue cars produced. You’re not the first to have read it that way. In fact, I read it that same way when we received the COA, and I said “Hey, they made a mistake!”
Was the 2014 BMW Euro meet in South Carolina? If that was the one you were at, ours is the car you saw.
I’ve always been careful calling a car or a Porsche for that matter “one of a kind.” The gulf blue ‘79 might be the only one imported but certainly there could be RoW cars that color or even a ‘78 930. Snodgrass’ 3.o litre turbo book chronicles every 3 litre turbo ever produced. The book noted 6 gulf blue turbos between 75-77, some of which were imported to the States. And for the 1979 Minerva Blue/ blue interior 930 mentioned earlier in the post, well I own the exact same car. So for sure that isn’t one of a kind either. Again Snodgrass’ book notes multiple minerva blue/ blue interior 930s between 75-77. There’s paint-to-sample 930s which are truly one-off colors as well. Beautiful 930s nonetheless.
