I just read your story that came across from Pelican today, I'm sorry to hear about the fire. Glad to hear all is well and you found a nice replacement. I will report back tomorrow in regards to what I find. Thanks again for your help!

Maybe a new green wire all together?

I will be replacing the green wire from the connector to the distributor this week. If that does not fix the problem(which I believe it will, if I pull on the wire going into the distributor, the engine shuts down), I will replace the entire wire going from the CDI to distributor. Thanks!

Dude, if that fixes the mysterious full-on boogie when you step on the throttle, then we all need to capture that as an ah-ha moment to remember.

Have you been able to reconnoiter the throttle body linkage to make sure it's free (like me, I'm certain you have nothing better to do with your spare time but to fart around wrenching on a 930).

Mark, I found what was causing the throttle to appear stuck. It was actually an issue with the gas pedal linkage. Was a simple fix, thank goodness. Now I am hoping the replacement of the green wire will resolve the intermittent no start issue.

OK, replaced the green wire. Now, the CDI is getting very hot and the car runs like crap(back firing, bogging down at low speeds). Any suggestions? Is my CDI going bad? Thanks

Well....dammit....at least she starts now dependably. I'm at a loss here, never having messed with that particular part. I wonder if perchance you have the new wire hooked up in some sort of reverse polarity (plugged in wrong)? The only common factor is that you replaced the wire after finding that the original one was suspect (though you did get it to start with the old wire eventually). Seems the new wire is causing new symptoms. $hitttt...

I would try re-installing the old wire, since it did start with it before, and see if #1: it starts and #2: if the crappy backfiring and bogging goes away. At least narrow it down before spending the $bucks$ on a CDI.

Having said all that, I can't imagine that a brand new wire would cause this. Loose connections on the dizzy, coil, bad rotor, dirty cap.....all the normal stuff that may cause the same.

Come on, Rennlister's.....chime in here and help this guy out!

Thanks again Mark. This is certainly strange. To clarify took the distributor out, replaced the green wire going into the distributor. Also replaced the connector on the harness side of the wire. Nothing else was changed. Replaced distributor reset the timing. Besides running rough what would cause the cdi box to get hot (too hot to touch)?

Here's some interesting reading that I pulled from Permatune's web site. Just good general diaognostic stuff relative to any Porsche-related CDI issues, whether or not it's a Permatune setup. I was beginning to suspect poor grounding issues...what else would cause your CDI to get so hot other than drawing too many amps...and this writeup kind of supports that theory.

Don't know if this will help, but it's worth reading anyway.

Thanks again Mark. I will re-check the grounds. I'm wondering if I caused a ground issue when I replaced the green wire connector on the harness side.

Does anyone have a source for the "green wire". I tried searching the internet with no luck, but probably using the incorrect search criteria. Is there an official name/size for the coax cable? I want to replace the entire wire going from the CDI back to the distributor. Thanks.

Mark I only replaced the short wire coming from the distributor to the connector. I thought it would be best to replace the wire going from the connector to the cdi.

Wanted to provide an update and solicit additional help. Looks like I have the crank/no start issue resolved but now have induced another problem, which is backfiring, bucking as soon as I put a load on the car(release the clutch). The car idles and revs with no issues. Here is what I have done:

Had the CDI rebuilt
New Coil
Replaced the Green wire

Any suggestions as to what would cause the backfire/bucking upon releasing of the clutch? Thanks!!
