Head Re Torque Question
Time to adjust valves. Installed ARP studs on the rebuild. Should I re torque the studs before I adjust the valves? The initial torque sequence for ARP makes me wonder if it will make any difference. The initial sequence went up in 2 equal steps to 38 ftlbs and you were not suppose to stop until the proper torque was obtained on the final step using their special lube on the treads, nuts and washers. So I feel that over coming the static friction now could well be more torque on the studs than desired. If I don't move the stud nut then I am not sure I have the proper torque. Any thoughts or experience on these studs?

I have the engine out and will be doing the re torque this weekend so will see how it goes. A little nervous because when I re torqued the old Dilvar studs after the rebuild and 1000 miles I broke one and ended up tearing down and installing ARP studs.

I used to do it about 1/4-1/3 of the total tq each go around, clockwise inside to out.good luck, you can do it. The old studs were probably heat stressed anything would have made them snap.
