Iris blue changed during the 964 or 993. Definitely it's period correct Iris blue. I've seen Garnet red metallic with 999 paint codes too..Paint chips are from a '86 turbo brochure..

I stand corrected, my only reference for Iris Blue is the 993 pictured which I am selling as well as several other 993 models that I personally know of. This is quite a color variation for one name ! Anyone know why ?

To my knowledge, Ice Blue, Mexico Blue, Riviera Blue, Bali Blue, Oxford Blue, Cobalt Blue, etc, etc, have never deviated this drastically from the original formula/specification. Why then, would Porsche to such a drastic formula change for a color ? ! ?

.....I'd love to hear someones hypothesis.

Thanks for the link. After reading the Pelican link, do I now understand that the Goldman car (L999) is not Iris Blue afterall .... and in fact no one really knows what color it is ?

Baron on the paint code for the Iris blue I've noticed early '86 VIN
930s show L999 for metallics which were standard colors for that year. Dont know why but it seems Garnet, Meteor and Iris and (others) all had L999 codes on early VINs. It's seems arbitrary, not a hard fast rule by any means. That I know of these were all early production cars so maybe porsche wasn't sure if they would be standard metallic colors for the up coming year.. But Im fairly certain that car is Iris and not PTS..
