Default Turbo upgrade suggestions?

I've got an 87 930 with the stock turbocharger, fabspeed intercooler, and 1 bar spring. Original wastegate. Borla exhaust. No catalytic converter. Miles are split between DE events and cruising around town. I've had the car three years, and up until recently, I was plenty happy with the performance. But now that I am really comfortable with the performance on the street and the track, I am finding myself getting a little less amused with the power. So my question is, what is the next step for more power? I'm assuming that because I have the intercooler, no cat, and free flowing exhaust, that an upgraded turbo is the way to go. Am I correct? If so, what do you guys suggest? I don't want to add something for more power that requires a bunch of other mods to work properly. Thanks in advance for your advice!

I bought a K27/29 hybrid. It spools up to 1 bar at about 3300 rpm and pulls hard to redline. Dyno was 350 hp to the wheels on a .8 bar spring, so a 1 bar spring should be good for another 25 horses and a little quicker spool.

A 1 bar spring on that turbo will push 1.1, so you may need to go to a smaller spring because the bigger turbo will blow past 1 bar (ask me how I know). I have similar mods, Fabspeed IC, headers and exhaust, Tial WG, Adjustable WUR. But what I think really helped was the MSD ignition, really improved throttle response, idle, boost. That could also improve your performance.

The right cams will help it gulp all that extra air.

The hybrid turbo is definitely the way to go. Mine was built by TPC Racing, in Laurel, Maryland. Another suggestion is adding a seventh injector and tossing the stock air box. I'm at 385 rwhp and like you, I'm looking for more. But other modes are first and the engine will have to wait.

A k27 7006 will really wake that car up.

We usually will sell the K27 Turbo as an upgrade. With the mods you have listed, you could expect at least 350 RWHP with the K27. On our 930 Slant, we have a full exhausts, intercooler, air intake, rebuilt engine with some aggressive cams and I believe we put out 403 RWHP.

The turbo is relatively inexpensive for what you get out of it! Going to PM you a price

Kaspar sold me a K27S about 10yrs ago. I run the Fab dual along with Fab headers and B&B IC so its the same basic approach. In fact I think Stephen sold everything to me.

Very happy with it. Spools up well and not nearly as mug lag. Also comes with a nice wooooooosh free of charge.

I just got my 930 back yesterday. Went with the K27 turbo. What an amazing improvement!! Boost comes on 3-400 rpm earlier and pulls much, much harder than the stock turbo and doesnt seem to let up until redline. Very cool whoosh noise too! Had the Fabspeed wastegate dump pipe put on at the same time. I also have a Fabspeed intercooler. Their build quality seems very good! Overall, I couldn't be happier! My borla muffler is starting to wear out, so a louder muffler might be next.

Seat of the pants dyno, when I was running with a K27 7006, Fabspeed muffler, B&B IC, MSD ignition and advanced ignition timing, and 1.0 boost via a Tial wastegate, and BL WUR, I think I was probably putting down 375 hp....or wishful thinking anyway.

My new ride (Phoenix) has yet to get the same treatment. This winter will be a busy one as I bring her up to the standards of my lost and toasted girl.

E verybody is forgetting the most important upgrade besides headers, That is a lightweight fly wheel. The rpms climb faster therefore boost comes on sooner less lag. The stock flywheel weighs 40 lbs the lightweight is less than 20.

Congrats on the upgrades. Those improvements make the car come alive. I dont think I could ever go back. Difference between sucking through a coffee straw and a garden hose.
