Default looking in the wrong spot??

Am I the only one that doesn't have a Row or WPo before my actual Vin number, I have looked in the trunk , door jam, drivers side.I just wanted to find out where the factory intended this car to go..Maybe I am just nuts!

Your serial number does not have a WPO or ROW prefix
Through 1979 Porsche used 10 digit numbers

Your '78 serial number will stat with 9308 (1st 3 digits = model, 4th digit = year)

The 5th digit will either be a 7 for a RoW 930 or an 8 for a North American car

The 6th = 0 for Coupe

7 through 10 are the actual serial sequence numbers.

9308700100 would be a serial #100 RoW 1978 930 Coupe

There are many that find not having a sun roof quite desirable on a 930. Ever see a 934 or 935 with a sun roof? Must be some pretty good reasons why not.

Your right but wrong
I'm having 9308700107 and this is a 1977 car :-)
You should say :
9308700100 would be a serial #100 RoW "model 1978" 930 Coupe

Hi Klefroid,

Actually when I was replying to kevingen2 with regard to early 930 numbers, I was presenting a hypothetical case as no numbers had been supplied.

Nice shot of the I.D. Plate from your car. The RoW cars at this time had these plates on the lower forward right wall in the Luggage Compartment. While North American cars did not have these plates, the wall was still brushed black in that area. I am not understanding why you refer to your 9308700107 as a 1977 car as 930870 would indicate a 1978 RoW 930 Coupe. 0170 (the last 4 digits) make it the 97th serial number '78 RoW 930 (Porsche stated their serial number at 0011 during this time) making it early in the 3.3 run which is pretty cool.

Rather interesting in that your chassis serial number sequence is 97 and your '78 RoW Turbo motor is the 97th in sequence. Quire uncommon to see this. Usually they mimic closely but seldom are they 1 for 1.

You do have a rather interesting 930. Any pictures or additional details?

Right rear engine case support face, to the lower right of fan housing and left of the oil pressure sender.

By itself you will probably be ok but with the addition of a "race" clutch it's kinda a pita. The on /off nature of that type of clutch combined with a light flywheel and low compression of the turbo motor can make the car want to stall from a dead start.
