Default Just saw 1979 930 T with 10k miles for sale!!

Stopped by my storage facility (Classic Autosmith in Marrietta Ga) to drop my 993 Turbo back at its storage spot. Skip who owns the place with his son Brandon walked me over to two cars they are just putting on consignment. They do classic storage as well as sales and servicing.

Skip has two gorgeous 930 Turbos that are about to be marketed.

1979 with 10k original miles. Has been owned by a friend of his for years and finally decided to sell, given the current market. Gorgeous car!! A slate/silver blue color with blue leather sport seats, Just beautiful. Original paint and interior according to Skip. Listed at $199k

1989 Red 930 Turco Cab with $45k miles. 45k miles and really nice. listed at $145k as I recall.

I'm not up on values of these cars so can't' comment on the asking prices.

No affiliation other than leasing spots from Skip for my cars. Skip is a great guy. I have to say the blue car was stunning. Somebody please buy that car before it goes international!

I did take a couple of pics and will try to get them loaded later if I can.

Wow - $199,000? I guess you can just about name your price when you have a car with that low mileage - how many of them like that can there be?

For everyone's sake I hope they get their asking price. Its a rising tide that lifts all boats. I look at the air-cooled price run-up lately and remind myself there is NO way I could afford the car I have now had I to buy it again in today's market.

I honestly think this is mentally retarded. Uh... sorry... intellectually handicapped.

People are free to charge what they want (and pay what they want) - but these prices make no sense whatsoever.

And the prices would still be high, even if you dropped the 1 in front.

Seriously.

I said the same thing about Speedsters and early 911S prices, but the good ol' days of quasi-affordability never came back. They went up and stayed up. Bad for us that really wanted one, good for those that already had one.

Im less interested in what the absolute top cars bring and more focused on where the rising bottom ends up.

What should someone ask for a low mile early 3.3 930 when you can find a 912E with 130000 miles listed in Pano for $35K?

All mid-year air cooled cars are seeing increases and the days of the good DD 930 @ $50K or an SC in the teens are gone my friends.

Fair enough.

Just sounds crazy to me (and I've owned an early 911, and will buy another - but not like this).

I guess if you have the bucks, then more power to you as a new buyer.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the early cars - but there is a limit. Just drive one.

Best,

Matt

We are all entitled to our opinions on valuation - market is in love with the early 930 right now, been collectable (and expensive) for quite a while. Drive any collectable car from the 70's - I'll take a Porsche over any of them.

Not just the early Turbos !

A documented low mileage '73RS is now over 1 million and average '73RS are over $500k

964 Turbo S lightweights are now $5-700k

A documented low mileage '65-'66 911 is now over $300k and '65-'66 rustbuckets are now $75-100k ( I own a couple of good ones)

ANY and ALL aircooled cars have taken off for a myriad of reasons! (for another forum)

The '89 Speedsters have really taken off as well. Good low mileage ones are starting to approach the $200K range.

Hold or sell?
I have a low mileage 89 930 that I honestly love to drive. She only gets about 1,000 miles a year on her. 28k at this point. In three years it might tick over the 30k barrier but not by a lot. Can these prices sustain? Surely it is a bubble? Damn thing is getting too valuable to drive which was not my intention for the car.
What say the experts?

Logically I would say try and sell now. Probably as a good a time as any for a gain. Emotionally I would say keep and drive.

Cars for me are the latter...drive and enjoy.

I just saw a 28k mile RSA listed for $185k, market is a little nutty but lots of very expensive cars are changing hands.
