Post Final drive gear ratio

Hi guy's,
I'm contemplating to change my final drive ratio to the Andial shorter ring and pinion. If I'm not mistaken I have a choice between 8.41 and 8.39(correct me if I'm wrong). Have any of you'll used these ratios yet? If yes which ones? My main concern is top speed. What kind of top speed can I expect and at what RPM if I do lower my final drives. I was also told that it makes noise or there is a noise from the transmission after the change, is this true? Pls advise.

It's hard to match the quality of the original German 9:38 presently in your car. The noise you refer to is likely the lower quality of the aftermarket R&P and/or improper installation (pinion depth must be set within .001").

If you are intent on using a lower ratio R&P to obtain lower gearing (rather than purchasing individual gear sets), go for the 8:39. It is much stronger and higher quality than the 8:41.

Paul,
Thanks for the advise but I think I'm going to stick with stock. Reason being most of my friends here drive the 993TT, 996TT and the GT3. When they go up to Malaysia, they usually maintain their cars above 120-140mph. I know with the shorter gearing I can go above that easily but I just dont want to always have the car at high revs or more like keeping at high revs during these long drives, so I will stick with stock. Thanks.

Sameer,
Where are you located? I've heard that the R&P change is great for improving off-the-line performance.

t&p,
I'm from Singapore where the shorter ring and pinion is perfect but when we do go across the border, it's just long highways all the way which is when I need my long gearing.

I have a '84 930 where I changed to an 8:39 ratio. The car is drivable around town and at 80mph in 4th the tach is at 3200. I love it. Glad I changed. The original ratio was ment for Autobahn driving at speeds above 130mph which I don't do.
