'79 930 Purchase & Restoration

RF82,
Thanks for the photos. Whether you like this combo or not, Ivory/brown is a very VERY rare color combo and you might very well do better selling this at a nice profit and taking your winnings to find another Turbo in a more desirable color combo to your liking !
There are P L E N T Y of Black, Red, Silver or Grey Turbos available and if you spend a few weeks looking, you'll come across some blues as well !
This would save you time, money and lots of headache embarking on a Exterior & Interior color change !
As I mentioned above, Ivory/brown is a very VERY rare color combo and eccentric enough that there are going to be some Turbo owners out there who are tired of the "Run-of-the-Mill" color combos that would love to have this !
Take your profit and find your favorite color ..........Something to think about !

If we're going to use your numbers.. than(less than) $20k for the car plus another $60k that you say you would'nt mind throwing at it. For argument sake..make a total of $75k. If you decided to sell the car after enjoying it for a few years..you might get $50k(losing $25k)..due to color change..new owner may want to bring it back to its original color and factor that cost in the sale.
So you can probably sell that car the way it is for around $40-47K(depends on condition..could be more). Take the money you were going to spend in a reconditioning($60k) and buy yourself something in super mint condition with the color you desire with a possibility of making a profit down the road...the best part...you get to use it now..no 2 year restoration..

I'm with Baron on this one -do not mess with the factory color configuration on that car. Looks like chiffon to me, pull the color code off plate mounted on driver's A pillar. I had one very similar to that, hated color at the time but I really like it.

Agree with others here...mine is a once a week driver if lucky on weather, kids, life, etc...and while I hear you that it's not just for investment, but it really is a pretty cool color combo to some, me being one...those willing to spend big bucks on these value that...I was not looking for Grand Prix white, but happened to fall into it and absolutely love the way it looks...black, red, and silver are all over, but the ivory is not as common...now if it were one of those paint to sample pink/purple ones, I would have a hard time driving it! Was a slant for sale recently that was a odd pink/salmon...different, but not for me...I think the hardest thing I am having to deal with about your car is the upside down floormat...my OCD is coming on strong...

Fellas,
Really appreciate your comments...you're definitely giving me something to think about. There's no way I could sell the vehicle and buy another one right now. My buddy sold it to me based on my intentions to have it restored. But, that doesn't mean I can't have it restored in its current color combo and then sell it years down the road and buy something else, as one of you said, that suits my likings. I will say, though, that 1155 looks great...amazing how much better the car looks when it has a great paint job. I had no idea the color combo was so rare, but then again, I sure didn't notice many pics of that color as I was searching the net...just hadn't occurred to me.
I'll let you know what I decide. Thanks again!

Paint Code
Ok, this is getting more difficult by the minute because I can't find a website that can tell me what color, 179-9-2, is for a 1979 930. Any ideas?

I recently had to do a search on my 72S color decode and found it here:
http://www.elferclassic.de/technik/f...plack_gelb.php
It is in German...easy to figure out. There are probably better websites?
179 is your color code, 9 for 911, and 2 is for the paint supplier Glasurit (still in business).

#1155 was repainted in the original color but I don’t understand why paint shops re-spray the door jams usually with sloppy results like this.

Thanks, Igooz, but no luck on the link you gave me. 179 is nowhere to be found. Now I'm thinking I have a rarer 930 than I originally thought. I've been to no less than 10 different paint code websites and can't turn up 179 on any of them. The original owner of the car had a note in the file that says, "exterior paint to sample pastel yellow," but I don't really know what that means. I will say, though, it looks more white than yellow, especially in the door jambs where the paint is still shiny. This poor car has been sitting outside for most of the last 15 years.
Yep, you guessed it, but I align myself more with Neil vs Geddy and/or Alex. '82 is the year I began listening to them, well, it was 1981, but rushfan81 was already taken.

RF82,
Call or email Porsche (PMNA) and purchase a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA)
Maybe that'll shed some light .......might not, could just state PTS but it's nice to have anyway. It's worth having for the few bucks they charge you.

So it's hard if not impossible to find out official names of colors on the PTS cars, sometimes the codes are older colors or sometimes they are other manufacturers colors unfortunately the COA will tell you it's a PTS color. So it's possible that you have a one of one in that color DO NOT F*CK with it. Repaint back to it's proper color and find some one who love's it.
