Post 76-77 930 v. 78-79 930

I am currently looking for a 930. I have found several 76-77 930s. I know there are differences between the two i.e.: Displacement, brakes, no intercooler etc. Is the 3.0 l turbo engine substantially different? I realize the bore and stroke are smaller. Are there structural differences? Would it be feasible to update the brakes and add an intercooler to a 76 0r 77 930? Or would buying a 78-79 be a better option? BTW I am in the market for a 930 if anyone knows of one for sale in the Mid-Atlantic area.

Thanks
Justin

It cost me $2600 to update my brakes to 78-79 full floating 930 brakes. To install an good intercooler would cost about $1500.

I also wrestled with the same decision. There are some fairly substancial differences in the reliability between the two engines. I would say unless you have your heart set on having an early car for sentimental reasons I would go with the 78-79.

I was a pretty heart wrenching move for me to walk away from a pretty nice looking 76 930 but when I found my 89 930 it was love at first drive.

A 930 can be a money pit no matter what you do. So why buy a car you know you'll have to spend money on. Buy the car that's closest to what you really want.
