changing a 911sc to a 930widebody?
i have a 83 sc cab and am dropping a nut into converting over to a turbo motor and updating everything. what we porsche owner will do to have the perfect car. anyway the only thing i want to do to the body is to turn the rear into 930 widebody. i see you can buy turbo rear flares and spacers for the wheels. but i look at pictures of turbos and the rear valiance meet the flares and that will not be if you widen a 911sc . has anyone done this and if so what parts do i need to do it right. thanks John

John,
The part you need is the quarter extention for the 930 turbo. The rear bumper, bellows, valance are the same so they aren't a concern. The rockers are different too, you can cut the end off of yours and weld the turbo end onto them, or just locate used ones.
Oklahoma Foreign would be a good start to find the parts, another idea is a friend of mine owns Planet9eleven.com
He has lots of Porsche goodies and might be able to help you as well.
I have done several turbo and slant nose conversions over the past 20 years and have a good idea what is going on.
Here is a shot on my car, just a cool angle I like.

If you do undertake this project try to buy all steel parts and do the front and rear at the same time, but remember now you have to find some nice wheels and then maybe bigger brakes and then you will want some more horsepower. Sometimes after adding all these things up it can be better to sell what you have and buy a real turbo. I looked into doing what you have suggested and found out that I would be much better off buying a real turbo. Granted I did modify my older 911 and added Carrera rear fenders and spoilers, and all those things do make me happy, but do not add much to the net worth of my vehicle.
Good Luck

Mark thanks for the reply. i have a 3.2 shortstroke turbo motor and the suspension is all upgraded. i also have 18 3-piece turbo rims on the car so i am already deep. the only other mods i want to do is to make the rear to turbo width. thanks again.
