Road & Track Turbo Article
The lore of the 930 is spreading beyond the increased traffic on the various forums these days. Seems at least one of today’s auto journalists may agree (sarcasm aside) with the mystique these early Turbos had when reviewing their generations of change.
In its Drive section, the latest Road & Track issue (Dec 2013/Jan 2014) reviews the 2014 911 Turbo S (now only with PDK). Mostly the article speaks to the many techno advances the Turbo S displayed at a recent Porsche media drive in Germany, but, it begins and ends with the following,
“The first turbocharged Porsche 911punched the final hole in the rear-engined reaper’s Frequent Maimer card, boosting its widow-making reputation to sociopath status. Forty years later, there’s a force-fed 911 in danger of having that card revoked. In contrast to the wild first-generation 911 Turbo, which basked in its own ferocity, the 2014 model revels in its civility……….
……….Opt for the base car and purchase a well used 930--the original turbomonster 911—with the leftover 30 grand. And don’t bother upping your life insurance. Wouldn’t want to get too civilized, would we?”
Kinda why I’ve always liked the 930 in the fist place, never wanted to get too civilized!

Nice. There's a great article from '76 or '77 in Road & Track where they tested an original 3.0L non-intercooled 930 along with the 934 and 935 racing versions. I have a copy of the old print magazine with the review... it's fun to see what they thought about the car back then.
