Sweet. Actually this is the one I have in my binder. Jan '77 R&T which does a comparison of '77 930, a 934, and a 935.

FWIW I think early whale tale 930s will be timeless cars. My '77 930 has a '76 build date which means it was "born" 2 years before I was.

I love this this one as well .........and also have a copy in each of my '76 binders. Like the Turbos we admire, this incredible reference material is gradually disappearing !

The silver 930 is a survivor. The 935 is/was part of a major Porsche race car collection. Unfortunately that 934 was later destroyed. I had a great conversation with Doc Bundy (who along with Al Holbert raced that car) about the unique handling, and what it was like to race that car.

I've had the good fortune to drive several 935s over the years and a 934 at VIR. As one would expect, the 935 is far more evolved than the Group 4 car BUT the 934 is friggin BIG FUN to drive (if you like to drift) because this car is all about being sideways whether you like it or not ....... and I happen to like it !

NOT the fast way around any curcuit but BIG laughs, cool scenes for photographers and great YouTube vids !

I had a conversation at Rennsport 3 with Jurgen Barth about the 934. He said the same thing about the nature of the car and going sideways and driving the way he liked to.

As was said about the 935- "you can't make a pig into a race car but you can make a very fast pig"!

The Silver car seen of the front of the magazines is located in my neck of the woods. According to a plaque that was placed next to it at a concourse show this year It is number #011. There were only 4 of these cars produced for the US market #011, 012, 013, & 014. #011 & 014 are the only two left. There were also a couple of very impressive speeding tickets displayed as well.

Thanks for posting the pictures. #011 is one beautiful and special '76 930. Excellence Magazine did an article on it a while back. It is the 1st US production 930 serial number.

While it and #'s 012 through 014 may be given special attention for various reasons, it and the others are by no means the only 930's produced for the US market that year. Accurate sources list the number of production 1976 US 930's as 520 out of a total of 1174 produced for world wide distribution. That's still a pretty small number of cars.

Another special 930 resides in your state and it’s another silver 930. But, this one is a 1975. While there were no US production 1975 930’s produced it is one of the first one or two 930's to come into the States.

CDILL,

Does Kurt (owner of 0011) post here or elsewhere (Pelican, etc.)? If not, do you have his contact info (please PM if you do)?

The Excellence Magazine article mentions that he bought 0011 at a Denver dealership in Dec 1978 (traded a Ferrari 246 Dino straight across). The article included a photo of the letter from Porsche AG stating that the 0011 and 0012 were made in April/May 1975. If this letter is factual (it should be since it was from Porsche AG), then this very early 1976 930 production may help explain why 0011 and 0012 had Euro rear bumper reflectors (0012 was stolen from the R&T LA office and recovered without the engine, unknown if it is a survivor). The article does not have an image of 0011’s VIN decal and this would confirm the production date in the Porsche AG letter. In Magnus Walker’s “Turbo Fever” video, he mentions that he has 0013 (black) and 0015 (Silver) 1976 Turbo Carreras and also mentions they were made in the fall of 1975 (much later production than 0011 and 0012). I’ve posted an image of my 1975 930 Turbo, bought at Denver dealership in May 2013.
