Default In the home stretch!

Pending a positive PPI, I am likely going to buy this 1983 turbo cab. I wanted to poll the audience for any last minute advice to make sure I do the right thing here.

It isn't red, but I've warmed up to the Platinum Metallic. Especially, since one of my buddies pointed out that I had a red 996 cab and it was good to try another color.

Car has had engine rebuild, transmission and transaxle done. One of my buddies here in town bought a car from Mike and had a positive experience and said he was a straight shooter. Euroservice Denver have been servicing it.

One item of concern I have is that there isn't a kardex on the car and the owners manual is missing. Based on that, I am not sure how to determine that the side vents are factory and not modded later. As I understand it, this car is slantnose delete. If someone can school me on this, I would really appreciate it.

Please let me know what else I should be thinking about.

understand that you are a buying a grey market car. The vents and rockers were only installed as part of factory slope nose option so I'd bet they were installed at a later date. I don't know if PCA will sell you a COA for a grey market Porsche.

Bobby,
Nice looking car from the pictures, but Porsche didn't make 930 cabs in '83, they were only made in 1987 - 1989.
Check the VIN. The 7th and 8th characters for a 930 are 93 and for a 911 they are 91.
It could have been made from an SC or someone chopped up a 930.
Either way, there may be some body integrity issues. Be sure the PPI investigates this!

The sn delete was indeed a special wishes option, you could get the entire package minus the slant. Not sure why one would want to do that though.

For what it's worth, the listing is now down.

I clicked to the ebay link and looked at the listing. I realized that I know the seller (Mike Hughes) so I called him to discuss the potential controversy. I think is is genuinely caught off guard and never realized that no "production" cabs were made and never thought to check.

Mike Hughes has been buying, selling & brokering cars in Colorado for a long time and I am sure that this was a mistake !

I say "production" because with Porsche's inhouse Sonderwunsch program, a customer with a big imagination and an even bigger wallet could have in theory ordered a Turbo Cab in '83 for the desert roads on the Arabian penninsula !

I doubt that was the case with this car but there is always the oddball chance ...... I know of a HOT pink '78 Turbo painted by Sonderwunsch program

I appreciate all the feedback here.

So, how does one find out for certain if this is a special wishes car or something else? The vin seems to be that of a 930. Is a convertible top something you can add later or hobble together?

For starters, I think you need to contact the seller (owner?) and ask for documentation. If you can't get past that point I'd start looking elsewhere.

The service records only go back 8 years and without the kardex on the hood or owners manual we can't see the option codes. Obviously, that leaves it basically to chance whether this is actually a special wishes car, or something else.

I will holler back at Mike and see what I can figure out. I am tempted to invest in the PPI and see what the guts look like.

Again, I appreciate the feedback here.

Default COA

Seller should order a COA the day he buys a Car like that? Car could be Legit, I have seen an "S'' model with dual Exhaust (1 of 3), tried to buy it, but someone else got it.

This one only has the single exhaust which seems to indicate it does not have the power enhancements you generally got with the side vents and box rockers.

Theoretically, one should be able to get a CoA on any Porsche .... a Vin# is a Vin# so it shouldn't matter whether is is for a US car or RoW car !

Not sure if there are any politics though ........

Default Turbo

There was no power enhancements or dual exhaust with slant deletes that I know of, that Particular car had dual exhaust through a Special program, maybe "Wishes" not sure, it might take some time, but you'll find out, Again, seller should know what he's selling.

A good Tech should tell you in a Minute if he thinks it left Porsche like that.
