Post 1994 3.6 cold start

My 3.6 Turbo will barely start when cold, runs rough and backfires through the intake until it starts to warm up. Seems to run well when warm. Anyone have a clue?

I'll take a shot in the dark here but you could try a thinner oil like if your running 15w-40, go to 10w-40, these oils have the same weight when hot but the 10w-40 is thinner when cold, also don't fill your oil tank up all the way.

Jeff,
You might have the CO checked. Also check the 02 sensor.
Best,

Dear Jeff,
Check the spark plugs used. A collegue of mine on this side of the pond with a 964 Turbo 3.3 had a similar problem and discovered he was using hot plugs (titanium)which tend to get coked up when cold and make the engine hard to start.
Might be something simple to look for and just check before you get really stuck into the messy stuff,
Ciao,
Adrian
