Post Supercharged 930??!!??

Shame it doesn't contain an engine pic.

I'll assume that they in fact mean a supercharged widebody carrera? Does have turbo lettering though.

Replacing the turbo with an SC wouldn't provide any benefits though, would it? (other than better low end). Maybe they supercharged it in addition. Hmm, it's been done effectively in the past, why not.

Yes it would have a one benefit.

It would make the car alot safer, by reducing the power out put.

Then why'd they do it?

Might as well cut out the floor and run like in the Flinestones...hmm

Simple.

It was a non turbo, and they wanted to make it faster. So they bought some turbo badging, installed it, and added the supercharger.

Why would someone want to go from a turbo to a supercharger? Off course I'd understand from a NA to a supercharger or turbo but not from a turbo IMHO.

Lag. If you really want low-end torque, a positive displacement supercharger will give you that better than any turbo.

The supercharger has better off idle response. That is where they shine. There are some real fitment problems though trying to get similar high (400+) HP numbers out of a supercharger vs. a turbo setup, at least in a Porsche engine bay due to manifold height restrictions. Throw money at a turbo setup, and you can make lag insignificant.

Just so you guys know (because the owner obviously doesn't read this board) I've been out driving with that guy (Gordon, I think?). He's here in the bay area. I've got an '87 930, and he wastes everyone in our group through 2nd gear. It's a cool ride, I don't believe it says TURBO on the decklid, I think it still says CARRERA. He had the SC done by Knoxville SuperChargers, nice job, VERY good low-end, but cannot keep up past our 2nd gear.

The lettering might say Carrera, it's pretty blurry.

I know the advantages a supercharger has over a turbo (and vice versa), I was just enquiring to whether they had taken a carrera, added a supercharger, or had in fact, supercharged the 930 (and kept the turbo). Someone here gave me the idea that maybe they removed the turbo, and I asked what would be the point of that. Why remove it when you could have both?

I've read how decently modded 930s all but eliminate lag though.

I have an 82 911SC 3.0 that I would like to supercharge. Please tell me : 1.Where to look on the East coast(?NC)? 2. What will it cost? 3. What will I gain?
Or should I just buy a 930?
Thanks.
