Upgrading 930 to 964 look
#16
i'm not trying to pass my car off as something it's not. I love the 930 look, but don't feel the big rubber bumpers are part of what Porsche had in mind. Another reason I like the RSR bumper is the fact that it's not a 964 look-a-like.
not to say turbo3six's car doesn't look sweet. cause it does!

I was sitting at a red light the other day when a 930 with 964 rear bumper pulled up beside me. It looked great. In fact it looked like a finished design. It looked so clean that for a moment I thought it was a 964 but it had the same funky front bumper that we do. I agree that all mods should be done to the highest standards but we do what we can afford. These cars belong to us and we should feel free to do tasteful things to them as we see fit. I saw a 930 with an aluminum V8 in it that was so well done that if the guy hadnt had his trunk open I couldn't have told it had been moded. It had a dry sump and actually fit pretty well into the engine bay. All of the plugs were accessable with the dizzy sitting on the top rear of the engine. I know that would seem like a fate worse than death to some but to me it was an engineering marvel. He said that the low end torque was awsome and that it was available from idle.

I just don't get it - aren't there enough C2Turbos in the World for everyone who likes that look to go out and buy one?
But, get this, I heard that some guy wants to stick an air-cooled engine into the middle of a Cayman for a Track/Rally Car... Well, the engine will be lighter... But it won't be able to get rid of heat so well, will it?.. And then there's all the clever EFI stuff that you're effectively chucking away...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. But why didn't you just go any buy a 964? (They've got smooth 'ground effect' undersides, better aerodynamics, independent 'coil over' suspension, hydraulic clutch and 5-speed gearbox, etc. etc. etc.)

Bernard, you and I are on the same page! That is one beautiful car. Those wheels make it pop as well. I never was a fan of the funky black bellows rubber on the back. Puting the two pictures together allows one to compare the two. I went with a DP valance on the front so I had to keep the bellows there but the rear seems to be where the change is the most benificial.

Assuming your avatar is up to date, yours looks right IMHO. Looks to me like your tires fill the wheel wells nicely. Don't know about your torque squat situation, but mine already rubs slightly if I nail it hard and driveways and speedbumps are a hazard. If my mine's @$$ end were as low as Bernard's the paint would be blistered. (and no I'm not going to go any stiffer than my 33mm torsion bars, although I'm thinking about adding a "helper" coilover setup that'll take over for that last little bit of extra squat prevention).
