Stock is at7:1 compression and most of us up it to 7.5:1. I've not heard of anyone going 8.5:1. I seriously doubt you can up your boost any higher from stock if your going to be running so high compression. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ZCAT3--Unless you have an engine management system that can adjust timing on the fly, all else being equal, increasing the octane in the tank will not result in higher hp numbers on the dyno. It will allow for a bigger safety margin, and it will allow for more hp IF you can push the timing (or crank the boost), but otherwise it won't do a thing.
My Motec does not have a knock sensor/timing adjustment function, and I haven't, in fact, heard of any aftermarket system that does. This doesn't mean you shouldn't use high octane gas to do dyno testing--you should, of course. It's just not going to increase hp numbers if all else (timing, boost, fuel metering, etc.) stays equal.
As far as boost level, if you're twin plugged and at 7.5/1 and you're not tracking the car relentlessly on a hot day, you should be able to run around 1 bar with pump gas (that's 92-93 octane; no promises on California's crap) just fine. Let your ears be your guide. I put down just over 500 hp to the wheels at just a skosh over 1 bar (maybe 1.02-1.03 bar) on pump gas with no problem, especially for street driving.
What interests me is that AutoAuthority claims it can run a 9.4/1 996 tt engine at 1.2 bar on pump gas (this month's European Car). Now that must be a testament to more modern technology...or something...

I'm not convinced that all you need to do is to listen for detonation on our cars. I think by that time, damage is already happening. I've heard and believe that detonation can occur and you might not hear it.

Geoffrey--I've been around this car non-stop for 3+ years. I've chunked two pistons (one on the dyno, one in the car) and warped numerous ring lands. I know precisely what detonation sounds like in this car, and what it doesn't sound like. I trust my ears. I don't hear a peep at 1 bar on pump gas.
Now, the only way to prove I'm right is to tear down the engine, again, when it doesn't appear to have a problem, to prove that there's been no damage. I won't do that, although a recent compression test helps confirm, I think, that I've been running 1 bar without a problem.
There's no such thing as certainty without a tear down. It's about probabilities. I'm happy with the probabilities at 1 bar with 7.5/1 compression and pump gas at ambient temperatures under 70. Others might not be.

Sameer,
Was at RUF yesterday and saw your car in one piece (finally!). They started the engine up and it sounds wonderful....have yet to see it moving though....let us know how it all goes- heard you will be picking it up Monday.

I will be picking up my ride 1st thing on the 30th morning which is tomorrow. Run it in for 600 miles, do an oil change and than floor it.
I've also added a turbo bag(heat shield)to my turbo which I purchased from PowerHaus Arizona to keep the turbo warm which does help in spooling quicker.
After 3000 miles, I do plan to dyno the car and I want to see 400-420 rwhp. Lets wait and see. I think with the power my block is producing and given the light weight of the 930 to start of with, I should be able to take on the 996TT apart from traction.

Got my ride back yesterday. I have already driven it 100 miles. The car like a totally different car from before. Hardly and lag, free revving, so much more responsive.
However they did'nt put in the turbo heat shield due to fitment. Whatever the case, it's still a fire breathing dragon.

Hi guys,
I've already run in my car about 600miles, did an oil change, retourqed the cylinder heads(i think thats what my mechanic mentioned) and foored it down to full throttle. I run out of revs so much quicker than before. The car feels more like a normally aspirated car with higher compression and i'm getting close to or 1 bar on full throttle. Safe reliable power when I want it. Will be posting pics soon..
Oh yeah how could i forget, the flames are even bigger now.
