Default Odometer Question

My odometer quit. Electric, not mechanical. 1986 911 Turbo The speedo is fine. Maybe dieconnected. Where does it plug into the drive train? On the passenger side of the transmission? Also does anyone know which wires go where at the speedo. Four connectors?

Thanks.........................Ben

My bet is you may have pushed in the trip odometer while you were moving. It will smap the pin in the odometer and quit logging miles. It can be done at home, but for five days and $ 150.00, I'd let Hollywood Speedo do it.

Yikes! I'd better check out my trip odo, because after filling up yesterday I punched the reset as I was leaving the service station. I usually reset it before pulling out but I never knew there was an issue with doing it on the fly.

Mark is spot on. Reset mine on the fly doing perhaps 10 MPH, broke immediately and off to the speedo shop. Fortunately it came back looking better than it left. N. Hollywood are great people to work with and the price is very reasonable. Highly recommended.

I pulled my clock first to get behind the speedo. Then I took a picture of the back of the speedo and made a drawing to mark the wiring set up. Some of the wires are "dual" plug ins, so one pull can remove more than one wire. Also, I highly reccomend changing out the lights while your in there. One of mine dimmed and looked like crap at night. had to go back in a second time.

Easy fix

For those of you in Orange County check out Gails Speedo in Costa Mesa. Just had the Non Operating ODO issue myself. Recommended by Autowerkes. Pulled it at home and drove it to their shop. Had it back in 3-4 days. I have a '79.

I know it's crude, but I drew this late at night in the dim garage lighting.

Hope it helps.

I replaced mine by myself. There is a thread on PP on how to do it. It is an intricate job but not terrible. I like working on small precise things though. Heavy dirty things are more agrivating!
