Default Wheel size - 1989 930s

Newbie question - just acquired an 89 930s. They came with aftermarket wheels, 17" back, 16" front...ugh.

I am thinking 17" all around would look nicer. What is the max width I can go in the front and back? 8" front? 9" back?

Send me your pics and recommendations. Thanks!

An '89 Turbo chassis is the same as any turbo chassis from 1975 to 1989. The max wheel in the rear without issue is 11-in and 9-in in front.

If you wish to go really low on the car, then I would recommend 10.5-in rear and 8.5-in front (which is what I run). My car is an '89 running custom made three piece 17-in HREs.

By the way stock from the factory, these cars are fitted with 16x7 front and 16x9 rear.

My car:

Running a 12" wheel in the back with 315/30/17s. I'm somewhat limited in lowering the car, but running a modified engine that can use as much rubber as I can put on the ground.

Car came with these, but 10-11 is probably ideal for rears.

Sebastian,

Post some pictures of your car with the Fikse's. I get the feeling he's looking for that look.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread but figured this would be a good place to post this and give you an alternative at the same time I get some help about my wheels. I bought my 87 a month ago and it has the original factory Fuchs. They were sent somewhere by a PO and had the centers cut out, widened and somehow converted from 16" to 17" modular wheels. The rear tires are 315/35ZR17s and 245/45ZR17s on the front. I'm not sure I understand how it was done but the way it was explained to me is that the rims were widened and the edges rolled out to make them accept the larger diameter tires. I don't know who did the wheel conversion although I have extensive records of all the engine and suspension upgrades. If someone out there is familiar with this conversion I would love to hear about it. It may be an alternative for your situation too.

my 86 930. was making 700rwhp ran 245/35/zr18 in the front and 285/30/zr18 in the rear.. looked real clean but i was getting to step up to some 315's in the rear as i was having trouble holding 1st and 2nd gear.. didnt have the chance to when a lady pulled out in front of me in a suburban.. well car is wrecked all the way to after the passenger door. structural damage as well. if anyone needs anything for there car ask me I might have it.. keeping engine and tranny for the next one

I like the color combination, but that must have cost a lot of money to convert Fuchs into modern-lipped wheels..... Very nice work however.

Meiwah, I'm not sure how much they cost but I'm sure it was substantial. I finally found a possible vendor. I'm not sure this is the one that the PO had do the work but the description in their "specialty wheels" section sounds exactly like my wheels. I really like the way they look.
