Default HELP!!! Can someone tell me how to remove the stock stereo from my '78 turbo???

Hey Guys,

I recently acquired a very original '78 turbo, which I will soon be sharing with members.

The original Blaupunkt radio doesn't work and I am trying to remove it to send out for repair.

There is a retaining clamp underneath the unit, as well as spring loaded clips on either side. I can easily get to the retiaining clip on the right hand side of the stereo (as you face it), but I can't get to the clip on the left hand side. It is blocked by the housing for the ashtray.

I am therefore unable to remove the stereo. Does anybody have a good pointer for how to release the clamp on the left hand side so I can get this *(#&*%&^#^%*($ thing out?????

Is there a special tool required that I am not aware of???

Thanks in advance for any and all help. Best regards to all.

Wolf

P.S. One teaser pic attached since I know you are all going to be asking!!!

Have you tried to remove the faceplate nuts behind the *****, that should get the faceplate off, then you can probably remove the nut that holds the spring loaded clip.

Anxious to here about the car, as a fellow '78-er

Thanks Tom. I wasn't sure if there were nuts holding down the face plate. That will be my next attempt at solving this riddle.

Hey Phil (Van Buskirk) - is that you?!?!??!

Long time no talk. If it is you, I hope all is well with you and your family.

My turbo is a dark metallic "forest" green - my own description. I will drop it off my lift this weekend and post the color # from the doorjam tag. Maybe somebody here can then tell me the actual name of the color.
