Bumper Headlight Washers in '79 930s
Hi Folks,
Do all '79 930s (US and Euro versions) came with the bumper headlight washers by default? Was this considered an option back then?
In other words, if a '79 930 does not have any type of washer installed, is this an indication that the bumper is not from a 930 (i.e., potentially replaced after an accident with another 911 bumper)?
Thanks in advance and regards,

Thanks for the feedback...
But I actually consulted with three Porsche dealerships today (Carlsen, Beverly Hills and Towson/MD) and they all confirmed that it was actually an option for '79s. And it was an option as well for the '86-'89 930s (option 288).
But I guess most owners got this option, since all the 930s that I had seen from this era had the washers.
Cheers,

Hmmm...
I guess another way to confirm would be to check against the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for a '79 930 that has the washers, and see if it is listed as an option.
Any '79 930 owners out there with a COA that can confirm for us?
Thanks in advance,

The headlight washers on all 930 turbos were standard. If it came from the factory like that the original buyer would have had to special order "Headlight washers delete". It would be rare for somebody to do that, but i have seen one '78 930 that was ordered that way.

I still think it is amazing if all three reputable Porsche Dealerships would have the same "incorrect" answer - and this was from folks in the parts Department.
For the '86-'89 930s it was definitely an option (#288). You can check that with the dealership and on-line in numerous places.
Why would it be any different for the earlier 930s?

Agreed...
But the folks in the parts Dept at the dealer found the information in '79 930 manuals. It was not simply what that they thought (or remembered), but per the documentation.
Thanks,

I think the guys working at the dealerships have no clue, some of them probably weren't even born yet. Ask them about a 2010 and they might give you the right answer.
I agree that it was standard on the 930 and an option on the 911. The COA for my '78 930 does not list it as an option, but they are installed on my car.

The COA for my 79 930 does not list headlight washers as an option and it's listed as standard equipment on my window sticker. If it's a "Headlight Washer delete", I wonder if you could check the fuse box to see if it is still wired for the headlight washer pump?

My 79 930 COA does not list the headlamp washers as an option either, has the smaller late model style which is consistent with Vin # towards the end of 79 model year production. I'll echo the others comments, last place I'd look for expertise on an older Porsche would be a Porsche dealership.

Does your car have a dash switch or plasitic cover for the sunroof? Thought this might be another way to determine if the headlight washers were ordered "delete" (lack of switch in the dash).
