Hello all. New to the forum and I need info on insurance. I am currently insured through the home plan with house/cars/property/dog/etc. Is there a consensus on an insurance company with a good reputation for a 1986 930 with minimal modifications? I am currently being charged $560/year as a regular vehicle through American Family Insurance. The price drops to $280/year for "antiques" but limited to 1500 miles a year. Not a commuter but will make a few trips out of town for sunny weekends. Thanks.

Thanks. With my insurance the insured value is a bit nebulous so I will go with an appraisal and submit it to them. Then I will find out the real amount they will pay me for loss. There are several companies out there and I am looking to find out if any of them are honest. Or, is an honest insurance company a contradiction in terms?!

Try Heacock Classic Car Insurance. I've used them in the past and been very happy with them. I currrently have a Ferrari insured with them for agreed upon value. Many of the specialty insurance companies do have mileage limits, typically somthing like 1,500 or 5,000 although I think if you notify them you are about to exceed the limit you just notify them and they will bill you accordingly.
You definitely want an "agreed upon value" on your 930 as values can be drastically different for something thats in fair shape vs. something that is in show car condition. You don't want to be fighting with an insurance company and trying to prove the value of a vehicle after its been wrecked. I've seen people agonizing about what an insurance company is willing pay based on a regular (non agreed value) policy and its not pretty.
Best regards,
Dino

I'm also with American Family. They have a "stated value" policy that is very inexpensive. There is no mileage limitation. The car needs to be 20 years old and it needs to be an extra car. I pay about $300 per year to insure my 1986 911 Turbo for $45,000. Ask your American Family agent if he has policy.
