k27HF
I purchased a K27Hf from imagine auto when they were in bussiness, I am thinking about going garret way.
I had the turbo sent to Lindsey Racing when I put 964 cams in my car just to get checked out, make sure it was okay.. Had it rebuilt buy them just to be safe about 2000 miles ago... Turbo works great.
Question is I am thinking about selling it. What do you guys think it is worth?
Again I just had it rebuilt 2000 miles ago and is on my car working fine.
Thanks John

I know you can buy one from rarlyl8 on an exchange basis for about 1k
That was what I was quoted couple of months ago to exchange my K27 for a K27HF
I'll pm u I might be interested ... I think I am local to you ... I live on Long Island

You can buy a ball bearing Garret GT35R for around $1300 and maybe less, or a Garret hybrid journal bearing turbo good for up to 700 flywheel horsepower like the one called "blowzilla" for around $900. Blowzilla is a true bolt on except it has a rotating V-band clamp muffler attachment instead of the fixed 4 bolt flange and thats not hard to change.
Either of these turbo's are much more advanced in design and can make around 200 horsepower more than any k27 hybrid turbo ever pipe dreamed of easily while running lower backpressure in the header primary tubes, exhaust ports, and combustion chambers which means less heat and wear in the top end of the motor.. especially the exhaust valve guides.
All K27 turbos - the origonal KKK Borg Warner and the short life overweight-oversized holset compressor wheel basement built hybrids are obsolete. They are a ridiculous waste of money and they will never come close to the performance of a current day Garret turbo.
That does not include the new line of Borg Warner turbo's like this one... on paper these look pretty good and this one is only $800 right now.

Heres a question...
If I change out my K27 turbo for a ball bearing Garret GT35R or some other better turbo, will this make more horse power on my car without doing any other mods?
Or will I have to make other changes to make more power?

That being said, it will have the "option" to give you more when you do make some changes.

964$peed - what cams did the 964s replace? Did you notice an improvement? The K27HF is supposed to be a good marriage with your cams. After my experience with ball brg turbo I'm sticking with my K27HS. If & when I jump off the EFI cliff I'll revisit the many turbo options but for now I'm sticking with most reliable performance. Lots of opinions & debating posts on this subject but my experience counts most for me. Cheers!

Just wanna spend some $? ;-)
Yours is the setup I wanted when I tossed the failed ball bearing turbo, but changing cams didn't make it into the budget so I opted for the I/A K27S which is a better match for stock cams. I'm missing out on the extra top end your setup has ... <sigh> ... someday, someday...

I am a horsepower junky.. The Garret is more efficent and will spool up earlier.
I really should not mess with it but I really think a more modern turbo will make it drive even better.

Heat
A modern turbo DOES make more power at same wastegate settings because it more efficiently makes boost while producing less heat in the charged air.

Please provide documented proof -- remembering we're talking CIS here. Theoretical differences don't necessarily translate to reality when the rubber hits the road. I've been reading the debate for years and yet never seen a shred of documented proof.
